Day 04. A song that makes you sad - The Blue Nile: From A Late Night Train
In his post for day 4 ,
mamoosh pointed out the difference between a song that makes you cry and one that makes you sad. I had not thought about it, but I have to agree. There are no songs that make me sad, but a few make it very hard to choke back tears. From A Late Night Train is one of them.
I first heard this song on 30 March, 2006. The reason I know the precise date is because I heard it being used in the stage version of Trainspotting, and the ticket is still on my pin wall. 7:30 pm, The Lowry, Manchester, UK. It embarrassed me to feel tears burning in my eyes, semi-publicly no less. Probably no-one noticed, because I remained silent, and because, naturally, everyone was watching the play.
I found the band later by memorizing the lines I know it's over / But I can't let go. The invention of internet search engines saved me the shame and embarrassment to have to croon them to a spotty cashier at HMV.
