Episode 110: Bulleyes All Around

Aug 23, 2005 23:28

I started this past weekend by briefly sulking.  Pay day was still one whole week away, but my bills somehow cannot understand that.  I made a plan to go easy on the wallet.  I went to One Mic for the monthly open mic in the heart of Little Saigon.  The cafe is under new management, so there was a bit of an adjustment period to go through.  For one, the cafe used to be described as dimly lit, artsy, and très Bohemian.  New managment brought with it half a dozen computers, a Vietnamese-American waitress dressed like a Hooters waitress, a grueling in-door smoking policy, and a crowd of those who would rather watch paint dry than listen to poetry, spoken word, and music.  But we made the best of it even if all of us came home smelling like an ash tray.  I met Corey's new beau Andrew there.  Khang also came, and I think he came close to reading some poetry.  I 'm getting more driven to perform or read something.... maybe in October after One Mic takes a month break.  I'm still trying to convince Rhianne to come perform!  Come on girl!!

On the drive home, I decided to take a scenic route down Goldenwest/Knotts mostly because I did not feel like making a left turn.  When I got closer to Buena Park, I noticed a big sign hanging brightly over some dark construction rubble.  It said:

Coming soon........

I was giddy!  They have to come up with a word in the dictionary that describes Target happiness.  The Target, which seems to be making good progress on construction, is located on Orangethorpe Ave. between Beach and Knotts.  It's adjacent to Denny's that I know to be the Ozz Denny's.  There used be a gym there I believe, but now it's a TARGET!  It looks like it may be opening just in time for the holiday shopping season.  My goodness... there are half a dozen Target stores within a 7 mile radius from me!  How fortunate for me!

I returned to do HIV testing for The Wellness Center on Saturday.  I had taken a month off from administering HIV test to recharge my batteries.  It was nice to be back, even though it was still a slow summer day at the site.  One of the patients I met gave me an answer to what must David Kilgo be like as a femme, gay man.  It was uncanny... the facial expressions, the voice, and the cockiness.  To every yin, there is a yang.  I met up with Michelle that night to eat at Johnny Rebs and then watch The 40-Year Old Virgin.  It was very entertaining, and had its' very sweet moments.  Paul Rudd is in it - a benefit, but Steve Carrell is really starting to grow on me as an actor.

I went to Disneyland on Sunday with my co-worker Rosa.  We were so glad it was not too crowded, so we had a nice time.  I have a trip planned to go back to the Magic Kingdom with Rhianne and Maria Labor Day Weekend, so I am looking forward to that.  Below is Rosa and me having fun on Buzz Lightyear Astro-Blasters.  Notice how I kicked her ass with my score!

Helen left for law school.  We had a dinner outting last weekend for her to celebrate both her move and her birthday.  Before she left, she dropped by my house and gave me her Yamaha Keyboard.  It's in very good shape.  I just wish I had room to display it.  My dad plans to remodel the home some time next year and expand the living room.  By then, my plan is to take up piano classes at a community college and practice on the keyboard until I can actually afford a piano.  I hope things go well so that I can start taking lessons in 2006.

When Monday approached, my weekend of going easy on the wallet failed miserably!  My sister and I spent over 120 dollars at Bath & Bodyworks on Monday night.  They had just released their fall fragrances, which is the fastest selling line.  We stocked up on Autumn Apple and Plum soaps, lotions, and room sprays.  I'm tempted to go back and buy the autumn apple and caramel candles.  They also have pumpkin scented items, but I'm not a huge fan of the pumpkin scents.  As you can tell, I get a little carried away over just about anything Autumn, since it's the start of my favorite time of the year (October through December).  Last year, we were more careful with purchasing our Autumn products, but when October came around and we returned to buy more, they were all sold out of the Autumn line.  Needless to say, we were quite sad, but we are ahead of the game this year!
