Episode 108: Sensory Underload

In each of us there is a muse.  The practical part of our muse makes sure that we prioritize and complete our tasks.  The other part of our muse guides the creative juices.  It is the bread and butter to the right side of the brain.  That part of my muse decided to go on vacation without giving me any notice.

Perhaps it's the heat.  Or maybe it's the frying sun.  Did my muse throw a hissy fit before taking off?  I'm looking forward to having her back home soon.  Without her, the world lacks some color.  Emotions run numb, and they do so by default.   After she left on holiday, I was in store for a surprise when she allowed cynicism to sub-lease her spot.

But she left her practical side behind, and I used that to fufill some responsibilities for the summer.  She taught me to save a little income because automobile fees were due.  She reminded me to go to the dentist, which turned out to be an expensive visit.

Her practical side got more acquainted with the sub-leased visitor, cynicism.  Together, they teamed up to buy me a host gift: a pair of un-rose colored glasses with a chip on my shoulder.  Through these new lenses, I see that no matter how hard a person tries to see the good in another person, he or she will eventually learn to accept that some people are just plain assholes.

I'm not searching for her.  I think it's best for her to come back when she is ready to.  An employer should not call his employees while they are on vacation.  But I think I did run into her last weekend at a Lesbian Wedding.  For a brief moment, I stepped out of the Kansas farm and strolled into The Land of Oz.  It was nice reunion, but I sensed that she had more of the world to see before she returned.

I was right.
