Last year, they trashed my project, this year, they seem to respect the idea and see potential... next year? I feel good about everything, watching all 6 six shorts I've done, each one is better than the last one. "East of the Highway," despite being shot with no money and a flip camera and has gone on to win an award and playing at Mid Atlantic Black Film Festival tomorrow. If I did that, imagine what I could do with $10,000 which I now have ready for Roughrider thanks to working at Troublemaker Studios on Predators and Spy Kids 4... and I still haven't met Robert Rodriguez. I barely have any money for myself, but making movies is what I live for now and is my own college so its all good. Bad news is, I've had my first break up and my nose is stuffy.
Roughrider will be a funny, unrealistic, thriller. Filming starting December 9.
APPLICANT: WILL MARTIN
PROJECT: ROUGHRIDER
STORY/CONTENT
"Well articulated idea mostly. Don't think this skater vigilante will hold a 108min. run time, especially with the style he's looking for."
ARTISTIC
"I do like that he's trying to blend skate video into a feature, but I'm not sure it will work."
VIDEO SAMPLE
"Looks like any other skating video."
"Previous footage is not strong and doesn't relate to the project."
"He's young so some of his stuff is sub-par, but he may have potential. From what I see here the camera work is not so great, the acting is rather weak, and the editing is too loose. but with money and time who knows?"
APPLICATION MATERIALS
"Their time line seems short for a feature. Festivals next April? This application gives me the big picture, but I'm not totally sure how they'll get there. Definitely ambitious which is great, but will they be able to execute professionally?"
OVERALL
"Skaters might like it, but not sure about anyone else."
"I'm not sure on all accounts. I want to say yes because he's a young local who obviously has passion and doesn't even need much in his actual cash budget, but I'm not sure it will be better than his samples or if anyone will watch a skate thriller thats 108 minutes long. Even in the skater audience segment I'm not sure they're looking for this, but maybe they would love it? Seems like the filmmaker will have a lot to overcome in terms of lack of experience, acting, etc. How will it play? He calls it a thriller, but when I read it, it feels unrealistic and funny. Which could work, but I don't think that's where they're going."
