hello all.
yes, as per usual it's been waaay too long since my last update. definitely a few update-worthy events in the interim, and since i'm bored at work right now, up they go. (warning, like most of my posts after a good absence, this will be long...)
to start with i will attempt to write out the absloute madness that has been my quest for a new apartment. to begin with we have to travel back to mid october. steve, my good friend from high school, contacted me about the possibility of getting an apartment together. since we both were looking to move into a new place dec. 1st, we decided to go for it. so we started scouring craig's list and looking at apartments. we found one in kensington (map link below if you actually care) that we liked. right off the f line, lots of good neighborhood amenities, laundry in the building, all good stuff. we even managed to get the rent down from 1700/month to 1600/month.
so we think we're all set and sit back and wait till the move approaches. i can't remember all the actual dates now, but sometime in early november we heard from our land-lady-to-be (connie) that she was having trouble evicting the current tennant of our apartment (3J) and that she would offer us an almost identical one (4E) in the same building for the same price so that we could still make our dec. 1st date. that seemed fine by us until we looked at the place. totally cluttered with all sorts of junk. on top of that, the pack-rat that previously inhabited this place and was responsible for it's current state of debilitation, was now deceased. all spookiness aside, we were told we were still on schedule and figured we were getting a bigger place for the same rate. so fine.
now we're at thanksgiving. actually, it's the day before and i'm literally 5 minutes away from getting into a cab to the airport to go home for the next 5 days. my cell rings and it's connie telling me that some legal issues have come up and 4E won't be available for our dec. 1st move in. so now, over break, steve and i setup daily conference calls at his house to discuss things with connie. after all our negotiating, we had it set that: we would not pay any rent whatsoever for the month of decemeber, a company would move me into a temporary unit in the basement of one of her buildings around the corner (steve was able to stay in his current place a bit longer) and eventually steve and i into our final place at her expense.
well, i've been in the basement now for about a week. it's not really an apartment so much as a place where the building's superintendent kept some random stuff. it has a bathroom with a charming shower curtain fashioned from duct tape and garbage bags. it has a kitchen where the fridge is the only appliace hooked up and working. basically, it's a dump. i am, however, living rent-free for the time being.
as the legal struggles have continued, it's looking less and less like 4E will be available to anyone, let alone us, in the near future. so now, the eviction of 3J is this thursday, and if that all goes well, we've made arrangements to be in the newly renovated 3J next tuesday. back where we started. wow. the good news is, despite all this craziness, i haven't lifted a finger moving any of my stuff. the moving guys are really nice and very professional. it was great to watch them load all my stuff on a truck and off again. it will be even greater when they do it for our final apartment.
now you may be thinking to yourself, "wouldn't it just be easier to pull out of this crappy situation and get a different place?" well have always considered that. what's kept us on this line is that, once all is said and done, our apartment will be really nice. spacious, good location, not to mention all the compensation we are negotiating out of connie because of the shitty handling of all this.
so that's my apartment saga. hopefully by next week it will all be behind me and i'll have a day or two to unpack some and then load up a bag for my xmas break. it is going to be one hell of a break if i finally settle this crap that has been hanging over my head for the past 2 months.
in other news, kaitlyn and i are doing great. we've been together for about 6 months now, my longest relationship by far. she's got a mentor through school that is really helping out her drawings and giving her confidence which is great. she's pretty busy now as her fall semester is coming to an end, but it will be great when she's between semesters and we can spend more time together. another nice bit is that i'm only a pleasant 30 min. walk from her now as opposed to the hour + on the subway it was before. it's great to just pop over without all the arranging and such. not to mention seeing her doesn't mean i have to stay the night and go to work from her place or vice versa.
Lit put up an xmas song "father christmas" on their myspace site, and it really got me in the Litmas spirit. if i haven't already assaulted you about it, check out my myspace site to see all the Lit-tastic trimmings including a newly doctored-up Litmas card picture (also check it for a shot of my new tattoo if you haven't seen that yet). who loves Litmas? this kid. wish we could get the gang together for another go-round, but you all know i'm thinking of you.
also, i was thinking of doing something crazy with my hair over my xmas break. i won't be working for 10 days, and i haven't done anything remotely fun with it in quite a while. my family can deal. so i'm looking for suggestions. i'm open to ideas on color, cutting/style. basically now its short on the sides and back, a little under an inch on the top and brown. i was thinking of a festive holiday red and green, but green looks great for about 5 minutes before it turns to poop. if i don't hear anything better, i'm thinking a nice deep red (probably vampire red from manic panic). but let me know what you think.
lastly, when steve and i thought everything was going well in our apartment dealy, we began telling people that we were throwing a new years party at said new place. we'll we'll see what our situation ends up as. i'll know by thrusday when we'll be in where, so i'll let ya'll know more about that when i know, but in the meantime, if you were planning on coming here, it may be a good idea to look into alternate plans. however, no matter what my apartment situation is, i would love visits from those of you who are mobile, even on new years.
ok, i'm gonna shut up now. thanks for reading if you made it all the way here.
