and how do you do? i'm just taking this moment to acknowledge that i'm not just talking to myself on here. it can feel that way at times, and there are definitely many people out there who either have absolutely no shame (which i am definitely guilty of at times) or just forget that the internet is a public domain. mostly these days i just ramble in here partly to kill time at the office, partly to revisit and asses things, and partly for posterity. i do appreciate those of you that read, and those of you who respond as well.
to prove my point, i'm going to ramble some on that very topic to kill some time. this isn' going to be organized or coherent at all, more like a stream of consciousness, but it's my freaking journal so if i don't finish a thought, tough shit. :-) also, i'm quite aware of the fact that this whole entry will be dripping with irony as i'm guilty of most of what i'm annoyed with.
so, why is it that people are willing to put every single detail of their lives up for public scrutiny? along the lines of the age old debate of art imitating life or vice versa, do our internet lives reflect our external lives or are our external lives influenced by how they will look once entered into a livejournal entry or myspace blog? i know for certain people take pictures specifically for said accounts, or after a particular zany shot is taken, comment, "oh this is sooo going on myspace."
my best guess is that in this age of "reality" tv (i use quotes because in my opinion those shows are just as fabricated as fiction just without big name actors), and ever increasingly invasive celebrity gossip, we all want a share of the spotlight so badly, and places like livejournal and myspace make us feel like the star of our own little documentary. we inject as much drama into our lives to make them seem more interesting. we make mountains of molehills.
and then there's the pictures. i won't even begin to talk about about the quintesential "myspace" picture, where the subject holds the camera backwards at a slightly high angle. but what gets me is the flat out pornography that people put up there. it's amazing how much boobs, asses, bare stomachs with pants in the act of lowering a simple search can find. again, has overstimulation and exposure to media made us so desperate for attention and recognition that we need to bare it all (literally) just to get a few strangers to type "ur hottt" in our comment boxes? and once again, i have to acknowledge that some people just don't care and would strip down for you in person as well, though probably out of similar motivations.
alright, thats enough for now. i'll probably be back on later today with an update about my experience at home this weekend. again, mostly so i can go back and read it later on down the line and remember (and no a paper journal wouldn't be just as good for that since my handwriting is terrible) and also for the enjoyment of anyone who happens across it.
