What a waste of a week. At least we'll have a break from this ridiculous school soon enough. I don't see why a dance is really necessary, though, not when most of the students have proven themselves perfectly capable of getting into trouble without any help from school-sanctioned events

That's the problem, really. I imagine they'll be good little girls and boys and the dance will be terribly boring as a result.

You can always start something on your own. People are much more likely to join in if they don't have to instigate it.
