I have decided that the next person who tells me I live in a nice area of Baltimore will have to buy me a new CD player and Car Alarm so that I don't get broken into for a THIRD time. Two times in a month spand.. that just fucking blows. At least they were nice enough not to break my window this time and just picked my lock, took my CD player out

I could offer a suggestion. I would suggest replacing your CDplayer with a largely unpopular cassette player, no special brand or features. Just a radio and a cassette player. Nobody in their right mind will break in to steal that.

Then into that cassette player, insert one of those "walkman to cassette" adaptors, like they sell in CVS for about $3. Nobody will steal that either. Then plug that adaptor into whatever MP3 player or iPod or even portable discman type player you like, just as long as you don't leave it in the car.

I currently own four cars. Not one of them has anything but a cassette player, and for the very reason that nobody steals cassette players. I own several MP3 players of various designs and capacities. I am partial to the ones that use solid state memory and not tiny delicate hard disks. Yes, in some ways they are more irritating to use, but I like that they are small and portable and can be used to carry data as well, if i happen to need to take a file with me, as sometimes happens when visiting friends.

Oh one more thing, ALWAYS when exiting your car, leave the cord from the cassette player VISIBLE on the seat, showing that it is not plugged into something. Even if you actually stash whatever device you had it plugged into under your seat, always leave the plug where they can see it. This way they will feel very confident there is nothing in your car worth stealing.

I have some other handy tips to keep unauthorized people out of your car, but this is perfect for the only need that I am as yet aware of.
