Trox's car was deemed seaworthy, though structurally damaged, this morning. They said we could make the trip home if we took it slow - something we had to do anyway, from the thick incoming winter fog. The drive was much longer than normal (took 5 1/2 hours going up to KC, 7 1/2 on the way back) but we did manage fine.
Thanks to all who offered help or thought happy things for us; thankfully we didn't need to stay up north too long though.
Remember everyone, SEATBELTS SAVE LIVES. I may have a series of the most painful, ugly bruises I have ever seen along my body where the seatbelt yanked me backwards when we crashed, but I am alive to nurse those bruises, which would not have been the case without the seatbelt.
