This episode a great example of why I love Supernatural. It's embedded in it's genre as a whole, but in the terms of episodic TV tacks risks, and can achieve something quite amazing in 44 minutes.
Thank you! I adored this episode for the same reasons you've pointed to so astutely here! It's a pity many folks on my f-list are pissing on it. :( Their loss, I suppose!
I loved it, too. But I really enjoy outsider pov with the guys. Plus, I liked the kids and thought they did a good job of making their story feel real.
I thought this ep was really clever..so many amazing camera angles. LOVED the bong scene *snickers* and i thought the college kids dialogue was written very well. Showed how Sam & Dean have grown up and i really don't think Sam would fit in that life anymore, even though he thinks he wants it. My rating is AWESOME :)
I totally enjoyed this episode. (It was the first of S8 I've seen, and I didn't intend to watch it - since I have to catch up! - but the first few minutes intrigued me so much that I stuck with the whole episode.)
Loved the characters, especially the girl who survived at the end. She was awesome.
And yes, I too, remain traumatised by "Lord of the Flies" (read at about the same age). To this day I hate pigs because of that. I recently read a book with alien pigs and shuddered the whole way through. UGH.
