Puppy!

So over the past couple of months I have been looking for a new dog (my English cocker spaniel Jack died in January).

I have very clear criteria, as the I wanted to make sure the dog and I are the right match. So I wanted an adult dog thats fine being alone while I am at work (so not easily bored or with separation anxiety), doesn't need 40km run every day (I did walk Jack morning and night and more on weekends, but not 40kms!) and low maintenance coat (I had Jack clipped short to save on brushing!) and is adorable.

I have been visiting the local shelters and despite the lure of cuteness have resisted a few who haven't been the right one.

Anyway - dog above (currently called Boo) is a Pharaoh hound cross who was surrendered to the shelter becasue her owner has a terminal illness ;( Despite her athletic (and regal!) appearance she is apparently very like a greyhound in temperament - a real couch potato. very sociable with other dogs, and not a chewer. She has pretty good basic obedience, although i'll take her to classes. She's quietly affectionate - a dog that isn't in your face, but likes to sit next to you and lean. Loves cuddles.

Umm - so she's mine! or will be next week - she needs to stay at the shelter for another week while an ear infection clears up. She is a bigger dog than I was imagining getting (although had considered a greyhound) but in every other way she seems a perfect match.

I am excited and nervous - i do hope we get along! Name suggestions welcome - list so far includes Lola, Tilda, Idris and of course Boo.
