Canonically queer

I thought seeing it's Pride month in the northern climes, I'd do a happy and gay Supernatural post. Now it's hardly a rainbow parade out on Route 66, but there a have been some notable and wonderful queer characters throughout the show ( Read more... )

This post is amazing! Thank you for this. I did notice that you missed one person though.

Dean Motherfucking Winchester.

It has been hinted at on numerous occasions that Dean most likely swings both ways. The most blatant hint they dropped was his totally unabashed fanboy crush on Dr. Sexy where he claimed that it was the fact he wore cowboy boots rather than tennis shoes that made him sexy. Then there was the Siren that you mentioned. He appeared as a woman to every other victim of his and yet he appeared as a man for Dean with the promise of them being together ~forever. Plus, let us not forget, Dean Winchester sat through Dirty Dancing because "Swayze always gets a pass."

So yeah, if there is one thing I am 100% sure of on this show, it is that Dean Winchester is bisexual.

And now I will leave you with this.

LOL - love that gif! However don't think Dean's fannish crush on Dr Sexy is evidence of anything - I mean I'm a dyke who crushes on Dean and Sam (and Jared and Jensen!)

Not alone it doesn't. But put together with everything else it makes a lot of sense. Just seemed wrong not to include it. And I'm an asexual biromantic who crushes on male and female characters all the time. That's why I'm biromantic. xD

You're not alone! I've always believed there was more to Dean's sexuality than what he let on, especially because I think it's quite clear that all his Macho Manly Man exterior is the product of seeking approval from John rather than who Dean is at his core. So yeah, when I first saw this clip it didn't surprise me in the least but rather made me say, "Go get him, tiger!" =P

I've shipped Dean with characters of varying genders over the past seven-or-so years. Castiel was my biggest Dean ship, though. I haven't shipped it since the beginning of S5 but I do agree. If Castiel were presented in a female body, Dean would've hit that. She also wouldn't have lasted very long, probably would have been poorly acted (what is it with them hiring mediocre actresses to play recurring female roles?), and she would have been hated on like Anna and Ruby. So I'm glad Castiel was played by Misha. Plus I like Misha and his interpretation of Castiel. But yes, I do agree.

Honestly? I've only seen maybe 5 episodes from the 7th season. I didn't even think about that particular episode until I saw that .gif. I sat through the entire thing just to be treated with that brief little moment and I regret nothing!

And say, would you happen to have a link to that fic? =D

That would certainly be interesting! However, I do not believe they are ballsy enough to go there. I think what they should really work on is allowing Dean to grow in a good way for once. They've teased about allowing him to find his own identity away from John and Sam but they've yet to truly go through with it. Now personally, I cannot see Dean settling down into any long-term relationships with anybody no matter their gender, at least not at this point in time, but it would both expand his character and fit in with his lifestyle if we saw him hooking up with a guy every now and then. It's a shame they'd never go there, though.

Really? I thought the episode itself was pretty sub-par. Different strokes, I guess. xD

WOO! THANKS! I know what I'm reading tonight. <3

They'll probably queer-bait us some more, beat Cas over the head with the Guilt Hammer, let Dean stew in his angst, and let Sam puppy-face at the screen while his sideburns take over the world.

OMG DYING!! That is so true! All of it!

I want to hope too, BB. It's just so hard. =(

IDK. Those didn't do much for me. I did love him in his cowboy gear in Frontierland. Dat vest. UNF.

I most certainly will! Thank you for the rec. It was one of those fic I didn't know I wanted to read until you mentioned it. xD

uhm no, they've had several strong female actresses, yet every time the same acting style that gets lauded on men, is used by a woman gets attacked instantly. So yes, if Misha were female and acted Cas the exact same way, she would have been called wooden, lifeless and a horrible actress. But not due to any actual lack of acting skills, but more because most fans are a million times more critical of actresses than they are of male actors.

Okay, now this I will agree with you on. I think my biggest issue with most of the main recurring female characters is that they're all so cookie cutter. If you notice, almost all of them have long curly hair, wear a leather jacket, a cool amulet necklace, jeans, and brown high-heeled boots and they all have that same snarky badass attitude. It's like this is the only way they know how to write a strong female character.

Or do they just need a new wardrobe dept. It's ridiculously noticeable how the women on the show all dress the same.

That would definitely help. I mean really, what woman in their right mind would go on a hunt in heeled boots? o.O

You ever get a good look at the heels on Dean's boots? ;)
