hello Kilgore Trout

No Supernatural this week, so let me give you my latest theory. Obviously all the writers work on all the characters but I think we can see that for the core writers, a particular character could be considered their avatar:

Eric Kripke is Sam Winchester.
I’m a little brother and I have a really close relationship with my big brother, and also I ( Read more... )

So... if Sera is Dean, and also an unabashed Sam!girl, does that make Wincest quasi-canon? :P

(I think I just broke my own brain)

THANK YOU FOR THAT KRIPKE INTERVIEW LINK! I've been trying to hunt that down for YEARS, I knew it had existed somewhere! Every time people go on about Kripke having a major hard-on for Dean and hating Sam, I want to link that thing and go, hold on, the man comes from a Sam POV! Which naturally predisposes him to be harder on Sam, as we tend to be harder on ourselves than on others.

That Sera inspires the opposite reaction outta fans has always made me chuckle. But I'd totally forgotten about that quote from her though! I love it!

My pleasure. I just have to LOL at people who think any of these writers aren't as obsessively in love with these characters as we are!

I think a lot of the depth of the relationships on the show comes from these dynamics too - Kripke is a younger brother who loves his older brother. Sera is Dean, but she has a serious hard on for Sam. Ben is Castiel, and he's fierce about Dean ( I remember him talking in S4 how he was glad Dean finally got into the mytharc, about how he was no longer 'destiny's chauffer' - sounding like any Dean!girl!~)

Chiming in with my thanks also.

I hadn't seen the interview but I have known for a long time that Sam was Eric's avatar in the story. He makes Sam the writer, the geek, so many reasons.

I always wondered what it must be like for him reading some of the anti-Sam stuff that gets posted in some places.

And yes, he might tend to idealize the older brother figure. :)
