From Faith to Houses of the Holy: belief systems of Supernatural

Firstly let me state up front: Sera Gamble and Kim Manners = OTP

Can you believe they haven’t worked together since Dead in the Water? That’s just wrong.

Sera (with Raelle Tucker) was responsible for the great episode Faith.

In that episode the boys’ stance on a greater good - oh lets call him God - as established:

Dean: I mean, come on, Sam, a ( Read more... )

Brilliant meta. I'm rushing around, I hope to have time before the end of the weekend to put my thoughts about the episodes down, but that aside:

In the Church of John Winchester, you believe you have to do things yourself.

That's such a sentence. Can I use it (with credit, of course)? I don't know how or when, but..it just hit me. The Church of John Winchester. Oh wow. And yes about all those implications about Dean and his beleif system. I think that line summarises why John was my instant love choice in Supernatural.
thank you :)

*big smile* Oh feel free to use.

I think the thing that was important to me is that our belief systmes are not only about religious faith, that family in particular is what constructs our belief systems.

Another thought an outsiders POV would be that it could look like th Cult of Winchester.

Like, for example, Henricksen (sp?) from Nightshifter....

I love your brain. You make these connections that I -- once I read your thoughts -- I realize that I make in my own head. Difference being, I suck at meta and I cannot get mine down into words. But I don't have to, because you do it for me. *bows down*

Oh thank you sweetie. Although I'd say you write your meta into your fics (and how lyrically you do). *hugs*

*hugs* oh thanks for exploring further the God's will part. I do wonder, if Dean believes thta was God's will, well its a pretty harsh God, who by that action is just as likely to kill Sam who his potential for evil. And that- not comforting.

I'm so glad me meat made some sense, becuase i feel i haven;t quite grasped all of the implications in this ep yet.

This is fabulous.

IMO, Dean is shaken and thus reverting/ turned into to believing, and may turn into him "old" self once he's feeling better about his life.

On the other hand, Sam calls his destinys "destiny" because it absolves him, sort of. If something is meant to happen them Sam is without agency, or at least with lessened guilt. Also, the existence of destiny puts less presure on the boys, regarding whether or not the job goes well.

Just random observations/ feelings.

"destiny" because it absolves him *jumps up and down* yes - i hadnt thought of it but that's exactly it. See my way of looking at this ep is not so much what it says about religion as to what it says about psychology and you are so right. Believing in fate or destiny does in some way free you which could be a useful way of coping when the odds seem overwhelming

Sam's faith has to be very strong -given how it's been tested in the last couple of years. that's so true.

I am also interested that Sam hadnt spoken of it to Dean - i dont think that's only about knowing deans very different views.
