In this meta I want to look at the episode through examining the brilliant direction of Philip SgricciaI think its amazing particularly how on a shoestring budget this show can have cinematic levels of visual composition for both the epic moments, and the intimate ones ( Read more... )

Just passing through because Yay!Pictures but someone made the connection between the shot of the interstate highway and a passage in Good Omens about a highway system that forms the symbol of the devil, something like that.

I thought that it made the shot extra homage clever. ;)

Indeed. It's the M25 London orbital, and Crowley moves a few markers during its construction to form the symbol Odegra, thus ensuring that the 15million cars that drive round it each day are grinding out a constant fog of low-grade evil.

For anyone who has ever driven on it, this explains a lot.

Really enjoyed this. I agree how great it is that this little show can give such a big feel for so little money.

(oh and pssst...I think you accidently referred to Ruby up above when you meant Meg--in these scene you describe just below the shot of her in heels looking towards the boys.)

Loved this. Thanks so much for the visual salute to an artistically as well as emotionally stunning episode. LOVE your perspective on the interstate spaghetti visual: a much more complicated world for the Winchesters, indeed. Thank you for sharing this!

Phil Sgriccia, are you trying to steal me from Ben Edlund as my favorite TPTB? (aside from Kripke, duh)

Thanks for putting this together! Like Lucifer Rising, Abandon All Hope has so many hidden layers that are easy to miss. That's why I love the sending postcards to the crew campaign, because the actors are the face of the show and people often forget how many amazing people there're behind the scenes, working their @sses off to bring us high quality television on the budget they have.

I ♥ this show

Thank you! I mean, I feel I learn so much about the visual language of film making just by watching this show.
