Flist as audience research

So I have had an idea, but I am not sure if tis a good one. Melbourne's Fringe Festival is on in September and I have a hankering to run a fannish event. Either readings of totally filthy slash (possibly with lava lamp reading inc), or a more mixed event with some fanfic and some meta - either on a show/book/comic or on fandom itself or even current hot topics like the whitewashing of Avatar or whether Harry Potter would beat Edward Cullen in a jelly wrestling match. I have a venue - friends of mine run a queer bookshop which has a performance space in it (also a liquor license and an espresso machine!)

So my question is - would you go to something like this? What sort of stuff would you like to hear? Would you be comfortable going to an event in a queer bookshop? Or are you of the opinion that all fannish stuff should be kept in fannish circles only and not put out in the mainstream (even if its the Fringe of the mainstream?)

I'd particularly love to hear if you've been to something like this outside of a Con situation. I have until late May to resiter and get in the Festival Guide.
