Commentary on the commentary

So i think all the extras on the DVDs are fantastic, and I wish there were commentaries on every episode. The work - both creative and logistic - that goes into every episode is incredible, and I want to send all the crew cookies. I love how Cyrus and Kim are like John and Bobby to Jared and Jensen's Sam and Dean.   I want to smish Kripke, have ( Read more... )

The Roadhouse is really the only element on the show that never worked for me. The Roadhouse is, at its nature, a stationary element, and given the type of facility it is, it's a "home base". When you try to put something like that on a show that is, by nature, not stationary (or at least without any stationary elements), you run into problems.

I mean, the boys constantly travel, right? City to city, all over the U.S. Why is it logical for them to pop into Harvelle's any time they need a bit of info they could just as easily obtain over the phone? A better idea would have been to establish a home for Ellen & Jo, have Ash living in the basement, and have the boys drop in once, maybe twice, and use the phone more often. And maybe meet the boys on occasion, just like Bobby meets them. But establishing a place that makes it necessary for the boys to frequent didn't work. Not that it couldn't work, if, say, it was 100% necessary for the boys to frequently visit a place. But in the end, the Roadhouse was just a place where people sat around cleaning guns. Drinking beer. Chatting.

I think Kripke really did intend to have so much more happen with the Roadhouse - if only the backlash against Jo hadn't been so bad. Grr. Stop reading TWoP, Kripke! (Speaking of TWoP, I AM working on that thing for you. It will *hopefully* be ready to go up by Friday/Saturday, maybe earlier. That cool? I'm so SLOW, I know.)

I agree. Teh Roadhouse needed to ahve a function, and in this show it didn't. Like police shows, or even medical shows where the workplace (or crime scene) is where everything happens, for the boys the road is where it all happens. Like meeting Gordon. They didn't need the Roadhouse to meet him.

and the TWOP thing is cool whenever.
