The Tales of the City books by Armistead Maupin started life as a serial in the San Francisco Chronicle in the 70s, and grew to a series of six books (the first three were also made into TV miniseries). The books followed the stories of a group of people, gay, straight, trans, whose lives and stories intersected.

I did try and get someone to knockout his (uptight) publicist person, so i could steal him away -I could listen to his stories all day! And there is a new TotC book in the works too.

He would be the best dinner party guest! And I love that he talks about the books and the characters just like we would. We bonded bc I am a big fan of Mary-Ann, while most of my friends hated her in the end, and he revealed that he sees himself as most like her. Oh and that Laura Linney, who played her in the miniseries, also loves her and she and Armistead are great friends.

Yes I am still HIGH on the day!

That is so awesome! I love Tales of the City and Maupin--that must have been really thrilling. Wow! I can't wait to check out the new book.

Yes! I don't automatically expect someone whose writing or acting or singing I love to be nice personally, so it was sorta wonderful! I just i could have heard many more anecdotes.
