It was such a beautiful afternoon that I opened the doors to the backyard so Reggie could run in and out as much as he wanted. A little after 5:00 P.M., I looked toward the door and there was Reggie sitting with his head hanging down and his front right paw held up. When he tried to walk, he couldn’t put much weight on that paw. I quickly checked to see if there was something stuck in it-nope.
By the time we got to the vet’s-less than 30 minutes before they were going to close-Reggie was having an adrenaline rush and feeling no pain. So we were there for a while before he relaxed enough for the vets to localize the problem to three toes on his paw. We took x-rays just to be sure that they were sprained, not broken-they weren’t. Then we had to have a long discussion about how to treat this. Because of Reg’s liver condition, there are a lot of off-limit medications. They finally decided what they wanted to give him, gave me directions for the meds and for keeping Reggie on a 10-day restricted activity schedule.
We got home at 7:00 and only then did I realize the medication they had given me had expired 2-05-seven months ago! It was too late to call back; they were closed. I called a 24-hour animal hospital, but after asking me lots of questions, they said, “Since we didn’t see the dog, we can’t help you with this.” Great! So I gave Reggie a small dosage of a pain medication he was given this summer. I’ll call the vets in the morning about the expired meds. The saga continues.
GOOD GRIEF!!!!!!!
