How does a dog get out of a fenced-in yard when both gates are closed and there are no noticeable gaps in the fence?

I don’t know either, but that’s what happened today. Reggie, my Miniature Schnauzer, was playing in the backyard-or so I thought. I went out to check on him, but he was gone. He showed up as soon as I called, but I have no idea how he got out. This does not bode well for him playing outside in the future.

I searched the yard, but couldn’t find any gaps or holes or openings. I watched him outside several times the rest of the afternoon, but he never tried to get out or poke his nose or toes out some opening.

This creates the sad thought that somebody let him out and then re-closed the gate. But what nut would do that and risk a car hitting a
small dog as he runs around the neighborhood? And why didn’t I hear Reggie barking at the person? Reggie barks at anyone-known or unknown-coming near the house.

I really have no idea how Reggie got out. The gates are now locked; but I’ll have to watch Reg whenever he goes out or he’ll have to stay
in a lot-neither are good solutions.
