New Zealand - Through the eyes of a 15 year old girl.....

Nov 06, 2004 20:35

Guess its time to finally update my journal, and tell y'all about my trip.

Tuesday:

Headed off from Auckland with mum and Miranda (family friend) and travelled to Rotorua - a smelly mud pit. nah it wasnt as bad as it sounds. On the way we drove through beautiful country side, saw lots of sheeeepies and goats and cows :) everything was bright green :) we arrived at 'Cambridge' which is just like an english town. We counted 10 motorised wheelchairs - this was gray nomad land. Old people everywhere! lol... omg.. when we stopped for morning tea at this little town, we saw this smallish building in the middle of this park with "Super Loo" writing across the top. We entered to find a very posh toilet, with its own information desk. o..m..g..
I had to restrain myself from laughing IN THE FACE of the guy working behind this counter. "HAHAH YOU WORK AT A TOILET!! WHAT A SHIT JOB!!" but no. i'm not that cruel. pfft. We had to pay 20cents to take a piss. what a rip job. Bloody kiwis :P

anyyyyway.. arrived at Rotorua, and as i had been warned by everyone (including Rusty) that this place STUNK and it would take you at least a day to get used to the smell, you see it is right onto of two tectonic(?) plates in the earth, so there was alot of Sulfur in the air - which as you can imagine stunk to high heaven. Everywhere around this town had steam coming up from the ground.. in holes, in drains, even coming off the water... it was boiling right benneth own feet. We were about 2km outta this town when the smell hit us. Imagine someone who has just eated rotten eggs, farting in your face, while your mouth was open (haha reen) and the smell wont go away. Well this is what it smells like...

We checked into a Motel and did all the touristy things, checkin out the local attractions etc.. Because hot water is so cheap in Rotorua, every single motel that we drove past had "Heated Spas in every room!" Well we had our own Private Spa out the back of our motel room :) that was awesome.

Wednesday:

Took off from Rotorua and travelled south to Taupo, or Lake taupo. Very Picturesque. Across the massive lake, you could see snow-capped mountains in the background. vera preettty. Had Lunch at maccas which had an old areoplane as the resturant, you could actually sit inside this plane and eat.. haha

On our way to Napier, we stopped at a Hot Spring - this huge place with 4-5 pools that have naturally boiling water in them. hottest of the pools being 40 degrees.. After that we headed further south to Napier - Art Deco Central.

Checked into a motel and went to check out the LaserForce, which happened to be a block around the corner from the motel..

Very Small site it is at Napier.. 16 suits and only one major room with video games and a counter, not even a briefing room. Pretty well astoblished considering its only one year old. David went there 2 years ago to install the system and the staff and owner were like "Davids sister!!" they remembered him quite well apparently. weird.

Thursday:

Checked outta that shit hole of a motel to move across the street to another motel, this time facing the beach.. or should i say "beach" Napier Beach makes SouthBank look like Hawaii. the "Sand" was jsut a whole lot of Black pebbles and stones.. Still very pretty. Toured around the town, did some shopping, bought lotsa pressies and then headed back to LF, this time to play some games.
Their highest scores have been 13 grand or something... but then again there isnt many people to play against, and there are only two in field targets. I wondered if there were any regs, or any really good players... saw the guy who had the highest score.. codename "osama bin laden"... turned out to be a 13 year old and came up to my waist if that. LOL.. ..... OMG they have burger parties as there birthday party things there. for $19.95 you get: 2 games, membership, if you all ready have a membership you get one game of air hockey w00t, burger, ships and a big soft drink (refillable), supply of party invitation cards, and a photograph of the peeps in suits.

wow.. lol oh and they sell ALCOHOL at Laserforce apparently it is "fully licensed" pfft.. plus you get a print out of every game. Can you imagine if we did a print out of every game to everyone at bris? we'd be giving out 40 every 15 mins!! fuck that.

Friday:

Drove outta Napier, on the way stopped at Woolies to buy fireworks, yeah you heard me, you can actually buy fireworks legally and at woolworths of all places. See, the kiwis have this thing kinda like 'Riverfire' in bris, but this way people all over the country, buy theres own fireworks, and instead of going to one place like southbank, with 30, 000 other people, you just buy your own and set it off in your own back yard. how bout that. Happens every 5th of November, and other surrounding nights...
So, when we got up early and started heading back north to Auckland, bi-passing Taupo. While in Taupo we had lunch and had a look around for a pressie for dad. Here is where that interesting experience with the guy tooting his horn at me occured. Mum, Miranda and I were chatting away as we crossed this street, and i heard a wolf whistle.. not a thought in my mind that it was directed at me.. wtf.. so i just kept walkin, still listening to mum. Then as we nearly reached the other side of the road, some person was tooting the horn really loudly, turns out it was a guy in a ute, waiting at the traffic lights. This moron looked ALOT like Fredd0 from LF..
Miranda then said "Looks like Kathryn is getting a bit of attention" groan... so i turned around to see the guy looking at me, still idiotically tooting his overly loud horn, yelling out woohooo, with his friend looking really embarrassed in the seat next to him. "Go fuck yourself" i thought.. i felt like saying "Dude, you are like 28, im 15 FFS!!" grrr mofos. truth is this is not the first time it happened on this trip; in auckland we went up to this lookout, and a huge group of maori guys were livin' it up with beers and regae music. Same thing happened, and Miranda kindly pointed it out.. ffs i was clearly ignoring them.. wasnt making eye contact for a reason. you didnt have to make a statement. ffs... oh well.. that was really embarrassing.
anyhoo.... arriving back in Auckland, we watched all the fireworks on display over the suburbs on the balcony, when it eventually got dark at about 8:30. Then we went up the vera steep driveway to let off our own fireworks. that was sooo fun. Huge Sparks flying, i was a bit worried about the powerlines that were directly above us, right where the sparks were shooting up. My job was to set the firework up, then light it, then run away as fast as i could. lol boom. man never had so much fun... let off a whole bag (around 20 works, varing in size, shape, colour etc)
Could hear the fireworks still going off at 11pm lol. bloody hoolagans.

Today (Saturday):

Got up at bit later today, after getting up at 7 everyday, getting up at 10 this morning was great :) Went to see more sheeepiieees and took lotsa photos. Then went to the shops with mum - bought a really nice black evening bag, and bought some stink pretty (Pink Happiness by Revlon) vera nice.. its new.. anyhoo got that duty free, we didnt eve have to wait till buying it at the airport, all we had to do was tell the people at the chemist our flight number and they gave us a discount. bargin!
Anyways... now its about 10 to 10 here.. i can still hear firworks going off, even a day late. lol.. bloody kiwis :P

well thats enough from me.. cbfed reading over that 1500+ words to spell check it. so dont laugh if you see a mistake.

Going to Aucklands LF tomorrow and meeting Thanatos... he practically runs the place now, only after 2 months of working there. He told me not to come in today coz it would be packed, plus he wasnt working today.. but he's workin from 9:30 tomorrow so ill go in then and check out the place.

talk to you all later and i might see you soon, im flying back to aus tomorrow!

i love xoxo
