Reading log time again. (damn it took me a long time to get through this book...)
Title: Breakfast of Champions
Author: Kurt Vonnegut
Summary: (thanks to a geocities site)Breakfast of Champions is a story of "two lonesome, skinny old men on a planet which was dying fast,"(p.???). One of these two men is Dwayne Hoover, a "fabulously well-to-do" Pontiac Dealer, and the other is Kilgore Trout, an "unknown" and unsuccessful science fiction writer. These two characters are destined to meet in Midland City and Kilgore Trout's book Now It Can Be Told is destined to turn Dwayne Hoover into "homicidal maniac".
My Thoughts: First things first, is it bad that I read this entire book and I still have completely no idea what it was about? I mean, I did get some of the satire and everything... but I really don't understand the plot or what the general point was of the book. This was definitely not the best Vonnegut book to read first. But it was my only choice (I've been borrowing books from my english teacher). In the beginning I thought I would really enjoy it because the writing style reminded me of Palahniuk's, but it did not live up to my expectations at all. I'd say the last third or so of the book was totally pointless. The "climax" wasn't much of a climax at all, and the entire ending didn't make much sense to me. Sad to say it, but I will not be reading another one of Vonnegut's books anytime soon.
Rating: 3/10. For all of the reasons stated above.
