Hello LJ, it’s been ages. House and Wilson still occupy a permanent corner of my imagination. It’s almost embarrassing how often I fantasize about these two. Shouldn’t I be daydreaming about some tall dark stranger sweeping me off my feet, not two middle-aged fictional doctors from television? I’m not even in my own fantasies, how strange! Guess I’m a voyeur. I have been writing this “pizza-with-a-friend” fic for ages, but I still like it and think it’s going to be a hot one. Sometimes my stories just fizzle out but in this case, it’s just a matter of time. Typing all day at work, I often don’t want to look at the computer when I get home. But it’s in the works, just needs a bit more sex and some editing. I hope to post it soon.
So I’m finally all caught up with House - I was a nearly a week behind for most of the season due to my crazy work-week schedule. I loved these last 8 episodes - lots of House/Wilson and no shortage of HoYay, either.
I loved the H/W scene in Act Your Age, when House gives him the theater tickets but refuses to accompany him. “You thought this was a date?” he says scornfully, and Wilson just shakes his head slightly, almost in confusion, as if to say, “Why wouldn’t I think it was a date, just like all the other dates we’ve enjoyed together.” He’s so enthusiastic about the tickets until House refuses to go with him, then he’s like, sure, fine, whatever. And then the whole Cuddy-wants-to-see-me-naked scene with the flowers - “X's are definitely the kisses.” I nearly swooned when RSL said “kisses” - I realize now that his voice is one of the sexiest things about him. I must get some RSL-narrated audio books - maybe something sultry. And those “seriously? Seriously?” conversations, especially at the very end! And the way he ran off when he saw Cuddy - as if it was possible for me to have a bigger crush on Dr. Wilson!
House Training was a bit of a downer - despite the leitmotif of the ill-behaved Hector. For some reason I thought Hector was going to be a big ol’ hound dog, not a little white terrier. Turns out his manly-sounding name is some weird anagram invented by Wilson’s loopy ex-wife. (And no, I don’t understand how or why Wilson’s three marriages can fit into the timeline with them acquiring the 17-year-old Hector as a puppy on their honeymoon, so I’m just pretending I didn’t hear that part.) The whole “you knew he had a wife waiting at home” accusation sounds like House and Wilson were out carousing and partying till all hours of the morning. Which, by the way, would be awesome. But House is right; he has nothing to apologize for - that was Wilson’s flaw. Wilson bringing him coffee while waiting for Lupe to die - waiting with him, and falling asleep in his yellow chair, then getting the autopsy consent although he knows that House has already started cutting… he’s such a good friend. Many people on TwoP think Wilson acts like a doormat, but I believe House is also supportive of Wilson - but because Wilson is especially compassionate, and House is just a little bitter, there seems to be a great contrast in the way they treat each other, yet I am sure there is a deep connection and a give-and-take to their relationship.
I thought Family was a great episode, though Foreman was starting to get on my nerves by the end of it. The House/Hector scenes were classic, though. And I loved, absolutely loved, the haberdashery scene, although we only got to see HSL in a cowboy hat for two seconds. The little tribute to Holmes with the calabash pipe was a nice touch - I am glad they have not forgotten dear old Holmes after the huge success of the show. But I loved the whole theme of House and Wilson talking about The Big Issues - is Wilson a coward for not recommending a course of action, or is he just doing his job and letting the family decide? I like when House and Wilson talk about such things - also the way they push each other. That more than anything makes me think they are more than friends - of course, I like to think they are soul- (and bed-) mates, but this kind of behaviour is also typical of family. House says he’s sorry - again! And Wilson accepts the apology - again! And then we get into the whole issue of does House mean it? Again! And yet I still love it.
And OMG, Resignation! I completely lost interest in Foreman by this point, but House and Wilson dosing each other, what could be more fun! And Wilson on speed - oh my! How great was RSL in this scene? And that whole showdown in House’s apartment with Wilson insisting it’s personal. As I mentioned, I love when they talk about The Big Issues. Also, I thought RSL looked hot all strung out with his clothes rumpled and his hair disheveled. I’m such a perv, when he said, “Give me a Vicodin so I don’t stroke,” I thought the line should have been, “Give me a Vicodin so I can stroke myself while you watch. Then we’ll have hot sweaty Vicodin-speed-anti-depressant-fueled sex on your sofa until we both come down.” And, the amphetamine-hangover scene revealed once and for all that Wilson’s office does have a sofa! I was never sure of that, and several of my fics would have been quite different had I known (particularly “No Boundaries,” the premise of which is Wilson not having a place to take a quick nap at PPTH.) Now that I do know, I plan to write some hot couch!Sex in Wilson’s office.
A quick aside about the vegan nutritionist - the whole thing is ridiculous. If they want House to have some sort of female love interest, fine, I know that’s what viewers expect, even though I think Relationship Stuff is dull and would rather focus more on the medical mysteries. But I understand they have to accommodate their viewing audience. But why not with women his own age? Between Cameron, and the lovesick daughter of the clinic patient, and the rape victim, and now this 26-year-old airhead - c’mon, I know Hugh is a tall cool drink of water, but it’s ridiculous. Honey was disgusted by her boyfriend eating flesh, so why would she be okay with House doing it, along with drugs, lying, and infidelity? But it could be my own sour grapes because I think Cuddy’s the perfect match for him, though as she herself said, “That ship sailed long ago.” (I should add that I think House is bisexual; clearly he’s attracted to women, though I also believe that Wilson is his true soul mate).
Back to the episodes. The Jerk was awesome - can’t say the chess nerds in my school were anything like that. Mostly they were the ones getting beat up, not the other way around. I felt sorry for the mother when she admitted that she hated her own kid. But the scenes with the kid and House were hilarious. However, not much Wilson, so I’m breezing over it, even though it was a great episode.
I also liked the closer, Human Error. The Cuban husband was great. Apparently the producers want House to “connect” more with other people, because he’s seen drinking with the husband at the end, after the wife is cured. But I interpreted this more as connecting with getting his drink on than with other people. The nutritionist is going to be in a few more episodes - also part of the “connecting” which I hope will not turn into this big sentimental see-he-has-a-heart-after-all theme. But of course the big question with Human Error is what happens to the fellows. It has already been revealed that Foreman will return in some capacity next season. That’s good, because I loved the way House dissed him at the end - started off admitting that he needs him, but quickly disintegrated into what we’ve come to expect from House - but he was right to tell Foreman this. Foreman’s self-righteousness is starting to get on my nerves. As House himself said, he goes by the numbers - he takes risks, and saves more lives, not taking risks means less people get to live. It was a great bit of acting by HSL and I loved Wilson’s dry little comment after Foreman leaves in disgust, “Nice try.” I suspect we’ve seen the last of Chase and Cameron and that the start of their relationship signals the end of their roles on the show. Chances are the actors wanted to move on. I do think House firing Chase was quite random and rather strange - Foreman’s been there the longest, so why is Chase the one who’s learned everything he can? He should have fired Foreman if that’s the reason for dismissing Chase. I will miss Chase the most of the fellows, because I think Jesse Spencer is the best actor of the three (although anyone would look shabby next to RSL, HL, and LE, the three of them are so talented). I won’t miss Cameron, although I think she’s not a bad actress. I liked her in the scenes with the patients; I think she portrayed Cameron’s compassion quite well. But I thought some of her scenes fell flat, as if she couldn’t quite get into the characterization - maybe she didn’t like Cameron any better than I did. Even though I think Foreman’s character is the most interesting of the three, I also think Omar Epps was the least convincing in his role. I hate to say it, because Omar Epps is so cool. But his scenes always made me think, There’s Omar, pretending to be Foreman. I’d like to see him in another role, or maybe he’ll be more convincing next season, heading his own department and locking horns with House. Or whatever he’ll be doing, the producers clearly enjoy keeping us in suspense.
So there you have it - my eight miles of post-season musings. Next up: some art and fic recs.
