FIC: "Cupid's Dart" House/Wilson NC-17

Jun 16, 2008 01:36

I'm proud of this one - it took a long time to write and edit, and at 17 pages, it's three times as long as my typical House/Wilson fics. It's my version of the House/Wilson backstory, based on my fanwank that the two have been romantically and sexually involved, off and on, since they first met. This is not an original theory, and the House/Wilson ( Read more... )

I love your perspective on this. I love how you portray them.

Yes, I want more young!House and Wilson fics from you! I want to read your portrayal of how they "break up" the first time making way for Wilson's first wife (and how House reacts to that), how Wilson reacts to House getting with Stacy (unless you envision House having some other girlfriend(s) before Stacy), and how they keep coming back to each other "between" their hetero relationships. When do they first work in the same city? Are they "together" there? Etc.

(I know, I'm asking a lot. It just means I'm a big fan of your writing.)

Do you see them identifying as bi or as gay men trying to "fit into" society? (I know, that's a whole can of worms.) I have my own views on this in terms of H-W, but I'm curious about yours.

I personally speculate that, in show canon, they have NOT ever been together in this way (but certainly both want to be). Of course, that is just speculation; I can neither prove nor disprove it.

I love the way you and hwshipper write H-W, and your interpretations that they have been together all along, off-and-on, totally work and make complete sense. They make sense even within show canon. Since I cannot disprove that they have been together all these years in show canon, then it's entirely possible. It's wonderful that you show us how it is plausible.

I hate to dissappoint you, but I won't be writing more young!House and Wilson fics anytime soon. I have another H/W in the works and they are at their current ages. I also want to write more Doctor Who and Torchwood slash. And I plan to post one of my very first slash stories, a Holmes/Watson piece. You know, broadening one's horizons and all. But I'll always return to House/Wilson, my favorite pair.

I never really imagined them breaking up; maybe they keep sleeping together through the wives and Stacy, or maybe not. I could go either way on that. If they do 'break up,' it's not for any big emotional reason but just because sleeping together doesn't work for them at that particular point in their lives. Maybe I just haven't thought it through as much as you might think!

As far as whether they are together, yes, in my world, they are always together, whether they are having sex or not.

I see them both as bisexual, with House probably more experienced in that regard, and Wilson probably not as much - maybe House is the only man he's been with, but I didn't envision Wilson as House's first in this story, though he's definitely House's first love and vice versa.

Wilson's confusion about sexual identity is typical of college youth and not particular to him being bisexual, that just adds an extra dimension to something I believe we all go through. I don't think either of them are necessarily trying to fit in. I personally believe they are bisexual and I don't believe they are conflicted about this later in life. Maybe they don't make it obvious to everyone but nor do they try very hard to conceal it. I mean, if House and Wilson worked in my office, everyone would probably assume they are a couple (but we are kind of gossipy like that).

Based on what we've seen onscreen, they haven't been together, but what happens offscreen? That's where my imagination kicks in! But I can see a good case for nothing more than close friendship. It's just that their interaction is more like a couple who have been intimate than just good friends. I keep thinking of that scene in which House drinks from Wilson's coffee cup. That seems rather intimate to me.

I like hwshipper too and I was worried that my story would be too much like Don't Ever Change but in the end, I think it was quite different. My story ends while H and W are still in college, whereas hers is more like their whole backstory.

Thanks for all your kind remarks and maybe someday I'll write more young!House and Wilson, but it will probably be more along the lines of "H&W's madcap adventure" than an introspective continuation of "How It All Began." But that's just speculation - I never know what my imaginary House and Wilson will get into next! (except each other, that's a given!)

Interesting idea about them continuing to be together throughout the wife years and Stacy years. Secretly? Or do the wives and Stacy know about it but avoid it/accept it?

As for them both being bisexual and not being conflicted about it later in life: I can definitely see that. House's "jokes" in "Whatever It Takes" come to mind.

-To the CIA agent: Well, I assume you're gonna drop trou at some point during the dance. I don't see why I should share.

-To the newbies: We use the term "life partner."

I think those remarks are evidence that House is very secure in his orientation, whichever way it goes! (Even if it's both ways.)

And yes, I agree that it's possible things happen off-screen, which is why your premise that they've been together all these years makes complete sense and really really works. I agree that their interactions are more like a couple than that of just friends. House drinking from Wilson's coffee cup (as you said), House generally eating Wilson's food, the close physical proximity when they both sit on House's couch, the poker incident in "House vs. God." I could go on.

I think it would be interesting if the show went this route... if they someday revealed that this has been going on all along. I do think it would be no surprise to a lot of us hardcore fans, but it would probably surprise a lot of casual viewers.

I look forward to all your H-W fics. I'm ok with drabbles and madcap adventures. :-)

Hi missviolet! saw myself mentioned so thought I'd comment here.

I love your story. Curiously perhaps, my favourite bit is after their first time when Wilson is all unsure and suddenly he realises House is even more unsure: and House doesn't expect him to come back but then Wilson comes back from the vending machine *loves*

As you know, I so totally agree about them being together for a long time. I don't have any monopoly over H/W established relationship fic - the reason I write it is because I like to read it, and I would love it if you chose to write more young!H&W.

And what you say here:
As far as whether they are together, yes, in my world, they are always together, whether they are having sex or not.
is absolutely my personal canon too.

Oh yeah, your name's come up a few times, because everyone thinks of you when we discuss this particular fanwank (because of Don't Ever Change, of course). Thanks for your feedback. I do love that part before Wilson goes to the vending machine, too. I might even pinpoint that as the crux of my whole story, in that I thought of that bit before I wrote most of the story. I wanted to show that it wasn't casual sex, even if it happened quickly, and both of them thought the other might consider it just a quick wankoff. But just because it happens quickly, doesn't mean that it's meaningless. Sometimes people just know it's right from the get-go.

I know you don't have a monopoly on H/W longtime established relationship, but you've written such an excellent fic about it, we can't help but think of you when we talk about this particular fanwank. I also love to think of them being together off and on, for so many years. It just fits their current onscreen interaction, in my world-view, they act not like old friends, but like longtime lovers.

I am glad that you read my story and commented, thanks for popping in! I am not sure if I'll write more young!House/Wilson anytime soon, but I'm totally open to whatever inspiration strikes me next.

Oh... were your ears burning, hwshipper? :-)

I don't mean to just casually "lump" you and missviolet together, so I hope it didn't seem that way. You are each a unique writer with your own unique style and vision. I absolutely can tell the difference between a hwshipper fic and a missviolet fic, and I love the fics that both of you write.

Both of your universes make sense, and each can exist in parallel. And I'll keep reading both of you.

*clasps burning ears*

No, not at all! I quite agree, there are many H/W 'verses all co-existing beautifully in parallel and room for all of them.
