Today we took one of our patients out for a little shopping excursion in the name of therapy. We went to......IKEA!
His choice, too.
You might say "but Erica, that's not therapy, that's fun!" but you would be wrong. It's both! He fed himself at the cafe (and did awesomely, I might add, if that is even a word) and practiced moving the power wheelchair around kitchens and the tiny little apartments they have set up.
Interestingly, 2/3 of the IKEA apartments featured had a roll-in shower. With no drain.
We had a lovely time, and after he raved to my PT partner about the wonderful chocolate bars they sell, his sister snuck off and returned with a bar for each of us. It was such a sweet gesture. We had so much fun this afternoon. We need to do things like this more often at work. It's good for the patient's, it's good for us, and it keeps things interesting.
Tea and chocolate, here I come.
