This week was SUPER BUSY ALL THE TIME week, with lots of people visiting and lots of social events and lots of work. I skipped one party today, committing the ultimate RSVP faux pas by texting my regrets.
Response: "u suck, but I still love u."
Hehe.
Though I had hoped my on-call occasional weekend job would say they did not need me, they asked me to come in instead. I worked for four hours this morning. Not a huge chunk of time, but tiring nonetheless. As I was leaving, they asked "can you come tomorrow?" I said "sure, why not." I'm off on Monday. I'll sleep when I'm dead?
The thing is, I make a ridiculous amount of money when they need me at this job. It's too hard to pass it up. Plus? It's easy. Why don't I work for them more often? Because then it becomes work, and is no longer worth it. I left that job, which was formerly my full-time job, because the politics and pressures were getting to be unbearable. As is, it's kind of fun to come and go as I please. Plus, I kind of like helping little old ladies get ready for the day, because most of the time they're adorable.
With luck, tomorrow will be another half-day. That I can manage.
I am also going hurricane shopping tomorrow. Really, we have enough to get by even if the storm hits us full-force. But the projected path is giving me flashbacks to 2004, when we met a storm called Charlie. Charlie knocked our power out for over a week, during which we ate nothing but lukewarm soup and crackers with easy cheese. This time, I want to make sure we are set. We have flashlights, lanterns, batteries and candles. We have enough water for 2 days. We have healthy nonperishables, enough for 2-3 days. We have plenty of pet food. And a wind-up radio. Still, I want to go ahead and do the normal week's shopping a day or so early, adding the following:
a few more gallons of water
a few extra cans of comforting soup or ramen cups
more granola bars, because I broke into the hurricane stash a week ago when I was craving one
some comfort food, like pop tarts - mmmmmmmmmm, pop tarts.........
We should probably gas up both vehicles as well. Just in case.
With luck, the fact that we are super prepared will make the storm pass us by. It's worked in the past. So you can thank me, fellow central Floridians, when we have little to no hurricane damage. Because me? I'm going to Publix.
