I am back from Miami and I am no tanner.
I learned a lot on my course, things that will benefit me more at home and for my writing than at my actual day job, but hey.....it was free, and it was fun and very informative.
The course was on manual therapy, which is the therapy version of localized massage. It is done strictly for the purposes of pain reduction, normalizing of posture and increasing range of motion and functionality of joints. It is not done to make you feel good, though it can have that effect. I will be using many of the techniques at work for patients who have trouble moving their arms, but most of the back, neck and trunk work will be strictly for home use.
You know. I'm married to a geek. His neck hurts a lot from computer strain. ;)
Something good about Miami: the weather. Oh, the weather! It's hot and sunny, but it is a completely different kind of hot. We were right on the bay, and the breeze was just enough to distribute the humidity and make it seem a few degrees cooler. Oh, and the rooftop pool wasn't so shabby either.
Something bad about Miami: NOBODY CARES. About anything. They are rude, rude RUDE even when you are lovely and pleasant. Then again, maybe they were jealous that I was being paid to lay by the pool and get massaged all day. That might do it.
I had yesterday and today off for comp days to make up for my "working weekend", and I used it to catch up on some writing and send some more queries for medical publications. I believe I sent seven over the past two days, which is a record for me.
Speaking of medical writing, livestrong.com is officially up and running now! It's fun to go and play. You can search my full name for my articles. Or, you can make a little health plan for yourself. It's a pretty neat site.
Back to work tomorrow. Trying not to think "ugh."
