I'm going to rant first...anyways, so I was checking out some of the Florida conventions. As always I flirt with the idea of going to a Florida anime con. When I look at the sites I can't help but feel embarrassed by them. If I went to one I would probably buy myself big, dark sunglasses and a scarf to hide, like I was a celebrity. I'm tempted to go and do just that! I'm going to sound like such a bitch now, but some of the FL con guests are people that get mocked in SoCal. I think I do want to go to see how bad they are. I don't even waste my money on the small scale local anime cons in LA, but I would probably go to one of the ones in South FL because I can also visit friends. I also wonder if I'd run into anyone I know...although I think most of the people I knew from HS aren't in South FL anymore.
I've also looked into staffing for various cons, to offset the costs of going to the con. The benefits are usually minimal. It's kind of sad and amusing at the same time. Although a lot of them are very vague about staffing/volunteering. Is there a difference between the two? How is it decided who is staff? You apparently need to be part of some magical group to staff. In the case of Otakon you need to be a 'gopher' or something crazy like that...seriously, they might as well call you a little bitch. They have some crazy ass rules where you need to work for X amount of years as a slave and then you need to be recommended by staff to move up. They also have some hotel reimbursement for certain people. It's a bit insane to me, but at least they tell you the rules, even if they are a bit drastic to me.
Now my next rant is all the pocky/ramune crap floating around in FL. I was buying that shit from asian markets years before people knew what those were in FL. I started going to asian markets in FL to seek out pocky in the first place. After I got some, I explored with other food and drinks. Ramune came shortly after. My best friend and I sat in the parking lot for 15 minutes trying to open the ramune bottle. We had to go back into the asian market looking like idiots to ask them how to open them. I only bought it because it had a whale on it and was like wtf...of course after they opened the bottle it made sense -_- . Afterwards we would buy them and try to make our friends open the bottle. Ahh..good times. Those good times are now ruined by droves of people who now worship these things. The sad part is that neither of these items are that great to me.
I should be going to bed..I need to get up early for Dim Sum in the morning...yum. ^_________^ Night-night
