It is very quiet in the house. I can hear a flea skittering across the floorboards, looking for a cat to cosy up to. That means rain's soon to come ( Read more... )

I wondered why nobody has been about here, either. Perhaps they have all travelled to Exmoor too. For such a big city, London feels terribly quiet and empty tonight.

As for the rooks, is there not a charm you can place on the cage so that it does not smell? I'm sure that there should be, which would make cleaning them a slightly more pleasant task.

It feels as if everything and everyone is drowsing, but now that I have said as much I can be assured of visitors to-morrow.

The cage came with an odour-prevention charm of some kind, which does not work well or often enough for my nose. I should like to cast more charms, but Gran is very particular about the moods of her rooks. You'd think such concern would have her tending to them herself.

It's been ages since I've seen you. We must meet for drinks soon.

I should like that, though I thought you in Italy.

Perhaps we can kill two birds with one stone; would you like to pay me a visit when Blaise is due, too? I have some fine wines in and we could make an evening of it.

What sort of bird am I?

Thank you for the offer, Theodore. I would love a visit. When did you have in mind?

Semi-finals for what?

Quidditch World Cup. Be over next week and London should be back to normal.

I should have to be blind, deaf, and dumb to not know about the Quidditch World Cup. It is difficult to tease properly in writing.

Which news story caught your interest?

News on politics. On the large or not-so-large buildings that we would call homes.

I saw no news on you and your clothing, or lack thereof.

Oh, the housing bill whatsit. I support it fully-- it will be wonderful for our economy and for our social experiences. Perhaps proper witches and wizards will stop fraternizing with Muggles and learn to appreciate our heritage.

I have not been very newsworthy lately, a fact for which I am grateful.

I thought you might. I know that you're quite sensible about such things. I think it is a paltry first step, but is better than nothing at all.

Not newsworthy, but very busy? I've not seen you in a month, at least.

Pets are such a bother. You should rid yourself of them completely.

They're really Gran's and not mine, and she is quite particular about her creatures.

What if Tiberius one day asks for a cat or crup?

Animals are messy.

Tiberius will get an owl when he goes off to school.

Messy, but at least they don't know any better. The same can't be said for people.

I can't imagine him school-aged, but then I expect he'll be walking and talking sooner than I can blink, at the rate he's going. Is he sleeping through the night yet?
