Yup, that's about how I spent my evening. Still really high from the cold I have. It's kinda like being under the influence- good news is, it don't bother me much. Bad news is- I've been smarter. Will have to survive on charm until it gets better.
Had a terrible nightmare that some guy busted in to rob my apartment. I confronted him and fought back (think I may have physically lashed out in my sleep, hope I didn't hit one of the furries). The bad guy dragged me and I injured my knee, couldn't stand. I had my cell phone and tried to call the police but was greeted by a message that said something about the local police being integrated with some other municipal service and that there will be delays and such for the next 2 months until they work it out. What the ? Even in my dreams the JCPD are unreliable!
The dream was so realistic that when I woke I nearly called to report a break in. And that, boys and girls, is what Nyquil can do to you. The dream was a compilation of several stories I've heard from friends and neighbors about real break-ins and muggings. There have been a lot, some quite violent. Guess it's bothering me more than I thought.
The evening was better. We went to this eclectic show put on in someone's apartment in TriBeca. It was over an Indian restaurant, yummy smells. Typically NYC pad, big converted loft space. It was cheap, and they fed us! My kinda people. There was also absinthe but that you had to pay for-did not want to mix that with my Nyquil! Quel disastre that would be, non?
Did get to enjoy some interpretive dance, double veil dance (amazingly beautiful) and a hoola hoop artiste- oh, and a short lecture on Victorian fans and how to flirt with them and on the green fairy juice (absinthe). See, educational and entertaining.
Interesting group of people, the small venue allowed us to get to know each other so we made buddies. The double veil belly queen is half Hungarian! And she speaks the language and knows the culture! We can now swap recipes and discuss stereotypes and childhood traumas.
I love meeting new people. Her fiancee is a very cool, mellow, friendly guy. And I met a girl named Kali (yup) the hoola girl. And an older couple that drums and goes to all kinds of events like this one. More partners in crime! The alt-culture of NYC will not be the same! One venue at a time.
