On February 28th, In All but Blood hit it's first birthday--I've been working on it for over a year. I consider this a major landmark. When someone has had something for a full year, the chances of them giving up is pretty slim.

A few days late, I have officially named Achilles' older brothers, for the "new" version I've been working on. I went through my geneology book and chose names that were both fairly common, not as famous that we'd go and equate them with other mythological characters, as well as fitting to our (or at least my) modern, western sensibilities. For example, I can't get myself to name a kid "Hippodemus", if for no other reason than I know the word "hippopotamos".

I also chose at least one name based on the idea that every generation has a name (or two or three) that every other person has named their kid--for example, this generation has Katie (or any varation of Kaylee, Katlin, or Cathy), Dave, and Eric. Or in the enlightenmnent all the men were named "John/Johnathon". Or that all composers seemed to be named "Johann", with the exceptions of Ludwig and Wolfgang.

In no particular order (unless specified):

Iason (oldest)
Ismenus (second)
Thoas
Lycus
Eurypylas
Deimachus (youngest, Achilles aside)

There are eighteen Lycus' in this tree alone, which is really something, considering that pretty much everyone is nobility or a god. There are also ten Thoases. I want to play around with the name Deimachus.

Thoughts would be nice.

I leave you today with Pachelbel's Rant:
