It was the sound of a girl giggling and the low voice of a boy which made Regulus look around the shelf in the library. Thinking back, he was sure that he knew subconsciously that it was his brother that he would find his his hand just a little too far up her skirt and his face in her neck as she sat on his lap. Either way, he made a soft, disgusted noise, then cleared his throat loudly. Upon looking around, she turned red and looked at Sirius accusingly, who just looked annoyed. She stood, and threw a nasty look at them before she stormed off.
“What do you want?” Sirius snapped.
“Does your boyfriend know that you're fooling around with her?” Regulus asked.
“Who, Remus?”
“No, your other boyfriend,” Regulus said, and was satisfied to see Sirius squirm at the sarcasm dripping from his brother's voice.
“It's not...” Sirius said weakly.
“So are just fuck buddies?”
“No, we are not,” Sirius said.
“Oh, so he'll just be your sexy pool boy once you get married?” Regulus asked lightly. “Funny, he never struck me as the type.”
“Sexy...?” Sirius looked stunned. “Have you been looking at porn?”
“I'm a boy, Sirius.” With an annoyed huff, Regulus said, “You know what? Go ahead and do whatever you want. I don't know why I cared, I'm not even supposed to be talking to you.”
As he stalked off, it was with some surprise that he heard Sirius muttering “Boyfriend...?”

Regulus had thrown reality into Sirius' face. He was shocked at the amount of shame that the younger boy had injected into him; despite his relationship with Remus, Sirius continued to sleep with girls, saying that people would see it as a little weird if he suddenly stopped dating altogether. The two of them agreed that it would be best to simply put off coming out until they left school, when they had some amount of anonymity, instead of the concentrated world of Hogwarts.
The fact was that Remus knew that Sirius was still playing around with girls. The werewolf never seemed to mind, really.
Sirius' impulse reaction was to run after his brother and hex him, but he knew that it wasn't Regulus' fault for pointing out the obvious. It was that Regulus was the first person to ever use the word 'boyfriend' to describe the relationship Sirius had with Remus-everyone else who knew called them 'lovers,' or in James' case simply 'poofs'-and the word made it clear what Sirius was doing: he was cheating. And there was no way that Remus could not care.
Which brought forward Sirius' decision.
Seeing Remus working alone in the common room, Sirius was about ready to wuss out right there. Figuring he might as well go all the way with the irony of the situation, he gathered the courage by reminding himself what his brother had teased him about once-lions were not known for their brains. With a small snigger, he told himself that it was time to stop using his brain.
With a deep breath, he sidled over to Remus and sat down across from him. Remus raised an eyebrow at him and looked like he was about to laugh, and Sirius realized that he must look very funny with his chest puffed out, obviously having a purpose. He deflated himself, closed his eyes, and took a deep breath. When he opened them again, Remus was looking at him warily.
“Have you thought at all about what you're going to do after we get out of school?” he asked, then silently cursed at how stupid he sounded.
“Not too much,” Remus said thoughtfully. “I can't have too concrete of plans, since I need to be willing to take whatever comes my way.”
“Well, what about where you live? Do you know what the others are doing?”
Remus thought. “I know Peter's moving back with his parents until he's settled into a career. Lily's talking about getting a place with James. It's a little backwards, actually, that he's beginning to wonder if it's going too fast. I was just thinking about finding someplace small and inexpensive.”
“You could move in with me,” Sirius said, trying to sound casual.
Remus tilted his head. “Isn't your place a little small? I don't want to be a burden or anything.”
“No, it'd be cool,” Sirius said. “And...well, we won't be hiding our sexuality anymore, anyway. It's actually kind of big for one person. I've got a couple guest rooms. But you don't have to use on of those if you don't want. I'd be just as happy to have you in my room.”
“Sirius,” Remus said slowly. “Are you asking what I think you're asking?”
“I want you to be my...partner.”
“What, are we going into business together?” Remus said, smiling lightly.
“Dammit, Remus. You know what I mean.”
“I want to hear you say it.”
“I want you to be my...my boyfriend.” Sirius whispered the last part.
“Sorry, I didn't quite catch that last bit.”
“My boyfriend.” Sirius snapped, then glanced around and took a deep breath. “Just you. No more of this sneaking around, hiding behind girls.”
Remus needn't have said anything at all; his expression spoke volumes, and Sirius wondered if he wasn't the most beautiful person he'd ever seen.
“Yes,” Remus whispered.
“I'm sorry, I didn't quite catch that.”
“YES!” Remus yelled, and started laughing in joy. “Absolutely.”
Notes: This is me being bad; I'm supposed to writing an essay on Quakerism for school >.< And yes, it is a fact that lions are not exactly the smartest creatures. In fact, they're probably the stupidest species of felines. (I saw it on an Animal Planet documentary! And not one of the "fun" ones!")
Also, because this is my journal, and the story does actually heavily involve him, I'll take this chance to be cheap and promote
regulus_fest. We are apparently such a starved fandom that at this moment we've hit 86 prompts. I know that there's no way in hell that all of them will be done, despite the fact that I'm already considering taking on more than one, but it would be awesome for this thing to be epic its first year running. So even if this would be your first time writing Regulus!fic, come and find a prompt that doesn't squick you, and write. Please. (It's sad to know that I've been in the Harry Potter fandom so long that there is little that bothers me anymore...)
