Stepping up to the plate...

Lately, career wise, I really feel I've stepped up to it.

I used to be shy, and not confident in my abilities, but lately, it's like I've gone through an evolution. Last year was hard. At the same time I was dealing with Dad dying, I was also running and hosting the National Band Competition Final. There were bands from all over the country to take care of, technical glitches to sort through, bigtime sponsors to keep happy, and bloody MTV driving me mad at every corner with their demands. And yet, I pulled it off. And not only did I pull it off, but I managed to host a wicked event pulling in over $2000 on the door (on massively cheap tickets), with everyone happy and gaining praise from people within the entertainment industry who I look up to. I was even invited to go to Melbourne on a national conference to deliver a seminar on how to host a successful band comp. Unfortunately this conference ended up coinciding with Dad's funeral so I obviously didn't get to go, but Dad knew that I had been chosen to do it, and he was so proud of me.

Now I've started this year with great enthusiasm. I'm getting sponsorship deals for O'week, and even though I've only been back two days I've already secured a massive Hip Hop event with a silent sponsor and awesome ARIA nominated talent, and also two "Small Day In" replicas of the Big Day Out, which also aren't going to cost me anything to run, in fact they're paying me to put it on.

I have a bigger activities budget to work with, and some great students, and I'm really feeling like they're taking my event management skills seriously this year, and while I'm going to be absolutely flat out, it's doing everything I've wanted to do, and I'm so proud of myself for finally stepping up to the plate and taking on my role with confidence.

Yay me.
