Snow day! So early in the school year too. Oh well, I will take it. The worst part was getting the 2 phone calls this morning about it at 5:30 in the morning and my coworker telling me to sleep in. However I was so wide awake that I couldn't go back to sleep. Its 7:45 and I have already had two cups of coffee, swept the floors, did a load of laundry and made Bradley breakfast. I took yesterday off to do some studying for the GRE so snow day is a double bonus. I did feel a twinge of guilt watching Bradley go off to work. Poor guy. How awful that must be watching your wife get a snow day and you have to go to work.
Yesterday was productive working on the GRE. I found the best book to help me with test techniques. I have been trying to figure out that test for awhile now. At first it looks straight forward but it is really not. Plus I think someone is having their own private joke in figuring out how many big, ambiguous and rarely used words they can fit into the verbal section of that test. I also did some researching into financial aid and living costs in Austin. As far as the financial aid goes I am going to cross my fingers that they offer me in-state tuition. California and Texas have been doing this for out of state graduate students. If I also TA or teach some classes while I am doing my graduate work that will pay some and also take care of health insurance. It is going to be hard going back a little in our comforts and life style. I understand now why my dad was so insistent on me going to college right out of high school. That way you don't get too comfy in your life style that sacrificing money, food, amenities isn't as hard mostly because you don't know any better.
Living costs go Austin actually looks cheaper to live in than in Fort Collins. I was trying to price out graduate student apartments but I don't think they accept pets and the graduate building is attached to an undergraduate dorm. Call me old and crotchety but I had my loud obnoxious fun in college and I don't need to hear it anymore. Plus if we decide to have a baby while I am in grad school than I for sure could not live by the dorms.
I think I will bake today. I kind of want to run some errands before the snow is supposed to pick up but that entails brushing off my car. At least in Texas I won't ever have to deal with snow again.
