"Maude" is my GPS System (yes, I've named it)...and last night I was getting mightily annoyed with her.
I was driving from Woodland Hills and was in a hurry to meet my friend at the All-You-Can Eat Sushi place in Hacienda Heights. Since the restaurant closes at 9:30 pm, I had less than an hour and a half to get there. Out of all times, my GPS system leads me to a route that had a mondo traffic jam on the 101 South. As I was sitting in traffic for the longest half hour or so later, I was getting really restless impatient. I also didn't eat since lunch. I needed to get off that freeway NOW so I exited the freeway and took sidestreets to the 134 East...The entire time Maude would not shut up! "Turn Right, Turn Left, Recalculating....." I was getting frustrated because it kept telling me to go back onto the 101 South. I told Maude to "SHUT UP!" but it still kept telling me the same thing. I wanted to shut it off and chuck it at the back seat. I eventually found my way--but I had to find my way without my dependence on Maude. She wasn't much help anyway!! At least I got to the sushi place in just enough time to enjoy plates and plates of rolled bliss...
I didn't stay mad at Maude for too long...This morning on my way back to my apartment from my friend's house, I was running out of gas. Thanks to Maude, I was able to find an Arco gas station nearby. I apologized to Maude and thanked her for saving me from being stalled. I am thankful my parents gave me a GPS System for Christmas. I don't have to be worried about being lost, nor do I have to print out confusing directions from google maps and try reading them while driving. The GPS System has been a huge relief to me and there's really no reason why I should complain.
In this day and age, gadgets seem to take over the world. They are convenient and they make our lives easier. However, we all must realize these new and cool gadgets aren't going to be always the newest and the coolest nor will they last forever...
....I still want to someday get an iphone though :-P
