Life Without A Car

Nov 07, 2008 16:08

Life without a car isn’t as bad as I thought it would be.  Before I thought I wouldn’t be able to get around without one, but thank goodness for public transportation and selfless friends and family, that I am able to manage!

Every morning, I walk to church. It takes 30 minutes to get there, (I leave at 7 am so  I can make it on time  for 7:30 am mass.)  I actually enjoy the walk.  I enjoy the crisp morning air while I think and pray.  Sometimes I even read while walking (I have to also be watchful and not get hit or trip). Sometimes I’ll just listen to my IPOD and sing along.

After church. my boss Debbie picks me up on her way to work (she lives close by).  Debbie also takes me home when she can.  I owe it all to her-THANK YOU SO MUCH DEBBIE!

I am also beginning to take the bus and the Metro.  It’s really interesting to see the many different people that get on and off the bus and train.  So many different characters never cease to interest me. It’s about a 10-15 minute walk from the Metro Station to my apartment and it can get shady at night, especially in North Hollywood.  Maybe I should invest in getting pepper spray and a flash light… Other than that, public transportation isn’t a big deal.  I do have to adjust to their schedule and waiting for a bus can take as long as 20 to 30 minutes.  I am not going to complain.  I am tough-and no one better mess with me on the streets of LA, lol.

I am planning to get a car by the end of this year.  I am eying a 4 door Toyota Yaris Liftback.!!  They are safe, cute, and economical.  Just them way I like it!

As for now, I am a roughing it without wheels-and it’s quite alright!
