saw these on ebay.. but going for $100 USD each.. ouch! the first one below is the stuff my mom used to listen to when i was a kid and i hated it back then.. but now i actually like the stuff. melancholy viet pop/folk type stuff from before the 70s.. mostly songs about lost love and that sort of thing (hmm.. would it be like vietnamese blues then ( Read more... )

word... khanh ly, i think, lives in cali that last time i looked into it. my personal fav is trinh cong son, who is one of Viet Nam's musical geniuses of last century ( ... )

oh man, i wish i went digging when i was there.. but i doubt hanoi has the records.. prob most of the vinyl you'd find in vietnam would be somewhere in saigon.funny though cuz a friend sent me some onra tracks awhile back (from an album touted to be all about viet samples) and i noticed that some of the stuff was actually in mandarin.. so were they chinese records too then ( ... )

oh, but then of course, my dad voted for the conservative party a few years ago. :(

they all still have regard ho chi minh with big respect though.

i have it & can burn you a copy. give me a lil' time.... don't know what you will make of it, as it is from a white war veteran's perspective for the most part. but if you can suspend judgement of that, then there's some great archival as well as interview footage with some amazing women in it.

i will also make you a copy of "oh, saigon," which is pretty good.

that would be great.. thanks! no rush at all. i saw it was some white guy who made it so i was wondering about that.. i hate vietnam vet perspective stuff (like 99.99% of the stuff out there).

what is "oh, saigon" about?
