It´s lovely to have a few days off. Every morning I make a resolution to get out of bed around eight to ´make the most of my day´. Usually I´m up and about around ten... *ahem*. Ah well, I have to get up at six five days a week and I´m very much an evening person, so I think I´ve earned it.
Yesterday on Good Friday I got the groceries, since the shops will be closed tomorrow and on Monday. I managed to get everything in in one go. My mum is working Easter, so Jo and I are going to take care of the cooking: a brunch on Easter Sunday and a dinner on Monday.
Yesterday I also put up the paintings we made for the Good Friday service in church.
We attached two images to the windows. For Friday, they were pretty dark. The once we´re going to put tomorrow are a lot brighter. It ended up looking pretty alright. I don´t like the fact that the green doesn´t match though - I was out of dark green so I added a little yellow to the green around the cave, so that looks a lot lighter now. Also - and neither of us took that into consideration, by the time the service started it was already dark outside (this picture was taken around noon) so the wasn´t very clear.
I like the ones for Easter Sunday better to be honest. Getting them up on the windows was quite the challenge... We put oil over them to make them more transparent, but the paper is all grease and slippery now and the scotch tape wouldn´t stuck to it. We ended up stabling the tape to the paintings to make it hold.
Today I´ve been pretty much baking all day for Easter brunch. The whole family is going to be there, plus an aunt. I`ve made carrot cake muffins, a quiche and a two-layered cake. I´ve never done that before. I made lemon sponge cake and I added some pink food colouring so when you cut it open the cake itself is pink as well and I put marzepan over it. I prefer marzepan to fondant, because I find fondant to be overly sweet. I also did a marzepan bow. A few hiccups aside I´m pretty happy with how it turned out:
It´s so shiny because I brushed it off with a little water, there was powder sugar all over it.
The rest turned out alright as well, but I´ll take more pictures during brunch tomorrow. Tonight we´ll switch to summer time, so the night will be an hour shorter. I`m not a big fan of these time changes because it takes me a week to settle into a rhytm again.
