Recipe 1 Miss Prune 0

I bought the ingredients for the "Sausage-topped polenta" but the week has gone by and I can't bring myself to cook it. Meanwhile I've been sorting through my collection and discarding a lot of the recipes I've saved. What strikes me is that many recipes seem like rather desperate attempts to think up a new way to combine ingredients, and so often I think the ingredients will do just fine by themselves in the simplest "presentation."  I have a feeling that most often if I try something new it will be "discomfort food." There's a reason why one sticks with a few old favorites.

So I'm throwing in the dishtowel for this week at least. I'll use the ingredients, but separately, not combined and piled on top of each other. I laughed out loud when I remembered my daughter, age about six or seven, confronting a new recipe I'd cooked up, a black bean soup with tomato chunks and onion and probably some other items - and exclaiming in disgust, "This is just a pile of ingredients!"
