Our next door neighbor threw a party on Saturday night - and by party, do I mean party.
This is the family with 4 kids in high school and college, so they're about the same ages as our parents. SUPER nice people. They had talked to Mark a while ago to make sure live music wouldn't bother us, being that our bedroom windows overlook their backyard, and then we got the invite so I had an idea of how big it was going to be. But holy crap. They turned their back patio into a stage with professional lighting, rented heaters (like the ones a lot of nice restaurants have on their patios), kegs, tons of food, wine, liquor...
It was such a blast! We got to meet almost everybody on the block that we hadn't met yet, and got to spend some more time with those we already knew. They had a few bonfires going, so even though it was pretty cold outside the backyard was really comfy. And I hadn't been inside their house yet, so I was really excited to see it - I'm all about decorating right now. It totally inspired me, and I think our next big project will be painting and hanging more art on our walls because they're still pretty bare.
Mark and I had been working on the yard all day before the party so we were exhausted and left the party around 10 - it had been a really long day. So we got up to the bedroom and got ready for bed, turned off the lights, but nothing really changed. The band's lights were so bright that our room was bathed in pink, purple and blue light. (We put blinds on the big windows, but have 2 more transom windows on the side wall, and haven't done anything with those yet). It reminded me a lot of the Seinfeld episode when Kramer can't get any sleep because of the neon sign right outside of his window. haha! we thought about moving to the guest room on the other side of the house at first, but were both so tired that we actually fell asleep despite the noise and light.
Good news is that we finished landscaping. Finally! The sod guys arrived this morning as I was pulling out of the garage, so that should be done by the time we get home tonight. The yard looks fantastic, I'm so proud of Mark - his hard work really paid off. And I'm so happy that my design ended up exactly how I imagined; it was my first try at landscape design, so I wasn't totally sure of what I was doing. I guess my research paid off!
My bulbs from Brecks arrived on Saturday, so those are all planted and I can't wait for next spring. I kinda like this whole gardening thing!
