I'll keep it brief because I don't like to glom onto the tragedy of others. So, to be clear, this isn't about Aurora, Colorado so much as it is about a dalliance with solipsism. That's how I get when senselessly horrible things happen in my country. I genuinely spend some time discerning if this is reality or if I've made it up. I live in one of the most violent cities in the world, I understand that there's a history of interpersonal violence in this country that is staggeringly constant on the smaller scale and cyclical on a larger scale. I get that. That it's been normalized to white noise is a symptom. Most of us manage to live avoiding those horrible extremes of expression but I have to wonder how often we're turing a blind eye to the rot, to the minutiae of daily horrors that compress a person into a shape that is less than human and can discard others human lives as such.
