Thank you + update + happy new year?

Jan 02, 2009 16:46

First of all, I want to send out a huge thanks to all the people that have been of aid in some way. From kind emails to nice letters in the mail, monetary donations, or donations of music gear, I can't say thank you enough to the generosity of strangers - or fans.. but to those of you I've never met, who maybe have just a glimpse of who I am from listening to my music, thank you for being there in what is a very very dark period of my life.

A bit of an update on the progression of things:

We are still living in the hotel, however there are now contractors at our house tearing the place apart in order to rebuild. I went back inside to see how things looked and it was difficult to be in the area where the fire started. It smell awful in the house, burnt plastic, smoke, who knows what else.. it's horrible. Everything that is still in the house has the permanent reek of smoke and most things that have been salvaged will need to be tossed.

The entire upstairs of the house has been gutted, to the bare bones. It is completely unrecognizable now. The house is old, built in the very early 1900's, so the damage was extensive due to the age of the house and the fact it hadn't been touched for at least 40+ years.

However I'm very very greatful we are all alive and together right now.

2008 wasn't done fucking with me yet, though, and 3 days after the fire, I was let go from my job. I was a bartender at a martini lounge in town, and they decided I wasn't needed anymore so I am now out of a job. Good timing. At first I thought it was a joke, because no one is that cruel, right? People are cruel.

But I am of the mindset that things do happen for a reason, so perhaps the loss of my belongings, the loss of my job... is a sign to end all things this year and to start anew in 2009.

New Years Eve was spent in good company of a few friends. My system I believe is still messed up from the smoke inhalation, and I spent NYE vomiting up a lot of blood which resulted in a trip to the hospital where I was for several hours.

So... 2008 went out with an incredible bang.

I'm hoping 2009 will be much much better.

If anything, the experiences in the past WEEK alone have taught me a lot about priorities. Health is a priority, family is a priority, the mere fact of being alive and being able to walk is something that can't even be taken for granted these days.

Once again, happy new year to everyone reading this, and thank you so much to everyone who has shown support in one way or another. I hope to one day be able to return the favor to everyone.

I am in the process of mailing out cards and notes to all that have donated something so far, and I would also still love to hear from people if they still believe in snail mail! I am not online that much these days but I still love communicating with people.
