Oh hai, I thought I'd do 13 random things...

1. I'm not even gonna check and see how long I haven't been on here. I'm sorry. I do like to write entries, it's just that Tumblr is easier and also, I've been kinda busy having fun.

2. I leave Williamsburg next week. It's amazing and scary and sad and wonderful. It's been such a great ride. I have been ridiculously happy here.

3. I'm terrified about going back home. I haven't been able to write my thesis while I was here, so that's gonna happen over the summer. I've had several major freakouts about my thesis. None of them have been remotely pretty. But anyway, basically I'll be stuck inside a library for most of summer. Two of my bestest friends won't be back in the country until (mid) July. I will go from a social butterfly to a recluse, and I don't know how I feel about that. You all know I don't mind being on my own, but usually summer is bad enough depression-danger-wise (the whole black pit of WHAT THE FUCK WILL I DO WITH MY TIME after finals are done). I'm afraid this year will be worse.

4. But! I've gotten in really good shape. Those of you with access to my Facebook and/or Tumblr have seen that I've actually played rugby. And I wasn't half bad at it. I mean, I wasn't good either, but I held my own and am quite proud. I've started running (really short distances), and I'm gonna try and keep that up over the summer. Endorphins should help keep some of the bad stuff at bay.

5. It's finals time, and I'm almost done. I have a 1500 word paper left to write and one exam left to sit. It's doable, but I've also planned a lot of fun stuff for the next couple of days (workout session with some friends, canoeing with another friend, lunch dates, a friend visiting campus, farewell party, last drinks at the Leafe), so let's hope this doesn't clash too much. I should really be working on my paper right now, but you know me: procrastination is what I do best.

6. OMG LOST!

7. I've done some really cool stuff academically. I've written a final paper on Wicked for women's studies. I worked on a research paper about the language of William and Mary's sexual assault policy. I'm happy with the stuff I've achieved so far, and hope my grades keep up.

8. Oh! And I found a grad program I want to do! Most masters in The Netherlands are one year, but I found a two year art and literature MA (mostly lit though) which has a big research component. They have actual STANDARDS for letting people in. It's quite amazing. My grades are well above their requirements, so I just have to write a letter and get at least an 8 on my thesis. The last one is easier said than done.

9. Long-term wise, I'd like to do a PhD in the US. That wouldn't happen for another three years or so, but it's something I'm gonna start looking into from september onwards.

10. Exciting summer stuff (other than my thesis): The World Cup; my parents' new house (which is much closer to me) and their housewarming party; M bought a house with her boyfriend and they'll be moving in July 1st; week-long trip to Greece in August. Even with the thesis, this is shaping up to be quite a good summer.

11. Back to my time here, if anyone asked me what I've been up to, it'd be hard to give a definitive answer. Mostly, I've just been living and enjoying life. Making sure my school work gets done properly; picnics by the lake with friends; indulging in bad movies and tv shows; just walking around campus and town and taking in... everything; hanging out with the rugby girls; going to tournaments and games. You know? The usual everydayness of it all?

12. OMG LOST.

13. Why can't I think of a number 13? Perhaps because it's unlucky, and I don't feel unlucky? I guess one could say I feel very blessed. In a week, my biggest sister will be here and we'll be roadtripping and it'll be epic.

life, school, plans
