I'm amazed. No one has posted on here in a long time. At least it seems like that. Darn, I was hoping someone else would write about our night last night and then I wouldn't have to. I guess I'll just wait for someone else to do it, since Colin, Ross, Annie, or Matt-- or even Kara!--could do it, and it would probably be more interesting than if I do it. As if anyone really wants to hear about our crazy friend from the Triple XXX who thought we were drunk and liked to relate everything to the Kuwait desert, or the fun sing-along to "Waltzing with Bears" that had even the owners of Main Street Ice Cream Shoppe swaying back and forth, or the bizarre drive through campus past all the bars with live music (no dead music here) coming from the back of our red pickup truck, complete with an amp.... But I'll let someone else tell it all. : )
Well, I should be either sleeping or trying to make my huge suitcase lighter, but I'm here instead. Today was a GREAT day. We woke up early and went to 8:00 Mass at St.Boniface, then we were going to head to Indianapolis, but we had to have breakfast to strengthen us for the day (especially tired Joannie). So as we drove toward the highway, we discussed where to eat, but never really decided, so Dad just drove to Cracker Barrel (if you never make a decision, eventually Dad HAS to...) but they were PACKED, so at the last minute we went to Steak n' Shake, which was a lot of fun because we had never been there for breakfast before, but grease is good anytime of the day, right? And so is Steak n' Shake. I refrained from having a vanilla shake with my eggs and toast, though. Oh, and Annie, I had bacon. (Last night our crazy Kuwait-desert-peanut-butter-milkshake-drinking-friend heard Annie didn't like bacon so he said "Everyone who likes bacon, raise your hand" and our half of the restaurant all raised their hands but Annie. It was pretty funny. That Triple XXX (isn't that redundant? Saying "triple" and putting three xs? Maybe it's just Triple X. No, I don't think so. And it sounds like a dirty, sinful place, too. Maybe that's why all the drunks stumble in there at three in the morning- because they have forgotten what the Triple XXX really is.) Anyway, that Triple XXX is a pretty crazy place. My brother Jimmy decided (it's one of his favorite places) that the wedding party for my sister's wedding is going there after the rehearsal dinner!! woo hoo. Okay, this is a really long side note...)
ANYWAY, after the yummy grease, I mean breakfast, we went to Indianapolis and went shopping. I had a GREAT time at the Gap, even though I really just wanted to go to JCrew. It was great to have my mom there, because while I would go in and be afraid to spend money and probably come out with one little thing, she kept pulling stuff off the racks and saying "Isn't this cute?" and then convinced me that I would wear it all the time and it was worth it. So I ended up coming out with a cute pink striped shirt, a VERY cute black skirt that will be wonderful for dances because it hits just below the knee and flares out, and a blue cardigan sweater with a hood that was $30 dollars off! : ) Then we got my sister Jill a blue striped shirt (that matches my pink one. Aren't we cute?) We did go to JCrew, but all their stuff was overpriced, as usual, so I didn't get anything. The guy at Gap that checked us out (not THAT way, silly) was very nice and he had a funny eyebrow ring and winked at me when we left. :)
Then we met my sister-in-law and my nephew Jimmy and nieces Maggie and Annie for lunch at Max and Erma's. Maggie was a riot and by the end of lunch was just kind of wandering around flirting with the people around us and making funny faces.
After lunch, Jimmy went with Dad, Mom, and I to go do more shopping, and Regis took the girls home for their naps. I had to get shoes for the wedding, which I finally got at the very end of the day. We were planning to go see the Nascar IMAX movie at 3:30 and Jimmy was DYING to see it, and I was too, since I already tried once and failed. So we drove all the way downtown...to find out it was sold out and ALL the shows were sold out until 7:30 that night. Jimmy was VERY bummed. When I apologized to him, he got this adorable concerned look on his face (the same look he got when I couldn't find shoes and he said "Joannie, I'm sorry you can't find any shoes!") and said "It's not your fault, Joannie. It's all those other people's faults." I think I might make that my motto in life...
So we returned home and Jimmy and I played with his new Prince Philip action figure, and then we played Stations of the Cross (which was great... he was a Roman soldier and kept saying "The Pilate said..." like Pilate was actually an airplane pilot...) and then Maggie entertained us by dancing around and making more funny faces. By then, my brother was home from work and we all went to dinner together. After dinner, I broke my Lenten resolution AGAIN and went to the new ice cream place in Fishers, where they live. I decided I had a pretty darn good reason, since I won't see them until May and we had to have one last celebration. We went to this place that just opened a few weeks ago, the Cold Stone Creamery, which was amazing. They have batches of wonderful, creamy ice cream (like sweet cream, mint, chocolate, white chocolate, amaretto, CAKE BATTER...) and then you pick a topping and they whip it together with these cool things that look like mortar spreaders on a cold slab of marble... I got mint ice cream with homemade brownies mixed in.... yummy.... www.coldstonecreamery.com Maggie helped me eat mine, and every time I'd give her a bite she'd kind of jump with excitement and grin.
Then we had to leave. : ( It was sad, but I'll see them in six weeks, which isn't that long, I guess.
So now I'm trying to get everything in my suitcase without it weighing 500 lbs... Then it's 7:30 Mass tomorrow morning and leave for the airport at 10 because my plane leaves at 12:30. Then I'll be back in Virginia!!! I'm ready to see everyone again, too... I miss you girls! : )
I'll miss all you Lafayette people! Annie, I owe you three dollars... Matt, I have to give you the two dollars that Meg gave me to give to you for parking on St.Patrick's day (meg, you didn't read that just now... ;))
Goodnight and Goodbye!
