I'm back!!!! And excited!!!

Apr 30, 2004 21:30

Wow. Welcome back, Joannie. It’s been too long, people, too long. And boy do I have news to post! Whew! I’m going to all lengths to make sure I don’t lose this baby, too.
First, I’m having a very stressful week. I’m going out of my head. Do you want to hear about my stress?
1) Tomorrow night’s Formal. No big deal, except that one actually has to get ready for it. Well, I have the famous Jamie Dresch to do my hair (she’s in demand… and she’s only doing mine! Woo hoo!); I have my friends planning dinner; so I basically just have to fix my dress a little and get dressed and do my makeup. No biggie, huh?
2) Well, that’s where this one comes in… My sister’s one and only bridal shower is Sunday. Which means I have to do all the cooking for it Saturday morning. Woo hoo. So that means waking up early tomorrow and trying to get everything done before getting ready for Formal. No biggie, I guess.
3) Finals are next week. That’s not too bad, except that I have my two hardest on the first day, Friday, and they’re back to back with no study time between them. Yuck. Then I have two on Monday, also back to back (we don’t have finals on Sat) and then one Tuesday morning. The nice part? I’m done with finals on Tuesday by 11:00 and get to goof off the next few days while everyone else studies.
So that’s my life. It doesn’t look too bad on paper, actually. There’s just a lot to do in the next 48 hours or so. And my allergies are horrible, so I’m sneezing at least once every minute, if not more. And you know me, they usually come in threes.
Okay, so enough (I just sneezed three times in a row) about my stress. Here’s my happy life:
Wednesday morning we were privileged to go to the first ever National Catholic Prayer Breakfast. (It’s like the National Prayer Breakfast… only Catholic. Which means a lot of Hail Marys and a lot of quotes from the book of James. J) It was pretty neat to go to the first ever, too. We got our tickets free- they were between 50 and 70 bucks, I think. We said the Rosary and then had Mass with Cardinal Avery Dulles, which was cool. I got to go to Communion to him because just as I got up there, my priest ran out so I jumped over and went to the Cardinal. Then we had this really posh breakfast. They had tons more people than expected, so we had to sit in this separate room, but it was still neat because we watched it on TV (most of my group didn’t, which got kind of annoying, but I got over it and tried hard to listen and block their chatter out). AND, since we were moved to the other room, the emcee of the event brought the Cardinal and Mother Agnes of the Sisters of Life from New York to visit us specially! So they treated us pretty well. It was a nice event. There were lots of famous people there- basically most of the Catholics high up in the government (except for the Supreme Court Justices Thomas and Scalia, I was hoping to see them), like the Secretary of Health, Tommy Thompson, a lot of Congressmen, Senator Rick Santorum (he gave the coolest speech!), the President’s private personal advisor, and even the First Lady of Costa Rica. So it was a nice morning.
Thursday we had our big party for the ambassadors of the college (basically, the students who give tours and entertain visiting students for the weekends they come). It was at the Admissions Director, Paul Heisler’s house, and it was very, very fun. It’s a nice time to sit back and relax before finals, play with the Heisler kids, and just hang out with people you never really talk to at school. A bunch of upperclassmen boys entertained me with stories from their childhood, and the famous Bryan Hadro, Senior Class President and Official Senior Class Hearthrob sat with me at dinner and gave me tips for being president next year.
Sometime this week, I was reading my US News and World Report (if its still on the newsstands, it’s the one with the college pictures of Kerry and Bush on the front- you should all go buy one) and there was an article about Fallujah (that dangerous city in Iraq) and the huge front picture of the article was of three Marines… and the one in the middle was Charlie again! This time you can really tell it’s him. It’s so crazy. Go buy an issue. It’s a sign that he really needs our prayers, guys. It’s so dangerous in Fallujah right now. Pray for Charlie!!
Pray for my Grandpa, too. He’s really tired of being at the hospital, and it’s starting to wear on him.
This next story needs a little explaining. There’s a city about twenty minutes away from here called Winchester, and every year they have this huge Apple Blossom Festival. It’s this weekend, and it’s full of parades and a circus and dances and dinners and everything. It’s also full of famous people. Past guests have included Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, Lucille Ball, and lots of other people. Unfortunately, this year wasn’t THAT exciting, but it’s still pretty exciting…. Kirk Cameron from Growing Pains is in town all weekend, and so is Jackie Joyner-Kersey (I really wanted to meet her L) and Chevy Chase and Sean Astin! Sean Astin is not only Samwise Gamgee, but is Rudy. I love Rudy. And I love Sam. So naturally, I love Sean.
Well, he was having an autograph session in Winchester at the movie theatre this morning from 10-11. So after my 8:30 class, my friends Trena, Matthew Arnett, and Joe Sayler (he was just going for his 12 year-old sister… he claimed…) jumped in my car and raced towards Winchester. When we got there, the line was SOOOOOO long, but we decided to take our chances. I guess the first guy in line got there at 5:30 am! We bonded with the people around us, especially the two cute little girls in front of us, and basically just prayed and hoped and waited. Well, they extended the session until 11:15, but that still wasn’t long enough. We got closer than I expected, though. At 11:10 they shut the doors of the theatre so only the people already inside could get his autograph. But they told us all that he would drive by so we could see him. Well, a lot of people left, but we thought, heck, since we were there and had waited, why not wait until he comes out? So we walked towards the front of the theatre and saw the car he was going to get in. We managed to stand right next to the car, like seven feet away from the doors he was going to come out of! Trena had my camera and was like five feet from the doors. We waited and waited, and then this cop came out with autographed pictures of Sam and started handing them out, but I was too far back and there was a mad rush for the pictures, and then suddenly, out came Sean Astin! And he was right there! He stopped outside the car for a little bit and waved to everyone. He looked so nice. Just like Sam, only he had lost most of his weight. He was a lot taller than I expected- I thought he was about as tall as me, but he was about 5’10” or 5’11”. Then he got in his car and eventually drove away! It was great! Then we went to the cop and he had a few more pictures and we all got one. So by avoiding the mad rush to get pictures, we got closer to Sean and still got a picture. It was such a great morning! There were some freaks there, in full costume and everything, but other than that, it was fun. J I hope the pictures turn out!
Okay, so you’re thinking my post is almost over, right? What else could I say? And I really need to get back to my room and work on the shower. But noooo, I have MORE news--- I saved the best for last!!
My cousin works for a radio station in Indianapolis, and so she gets to meet lots of famous people, mostly music people. I’m always asking her who she’s meeting and everything, and she knows I’m dying to meet someone famous. She invited me to the studio when Alanis Morissette and the lead singer of Five for Fighting came, but I was already back here in VA. But this is much better than that. Anyway, when I was home for Easter they were showing the previews for Bobby Jones a lot during the Masters, and Jill and I were gushing over Jim Caviezel and how wonderful he is. So Jessie emails me yesterday and told me that she just found out that there was going to be a special screening of Bobby Jones at the Indianapolis Speedway Golf Course (the course half inside the Speedway) on May 28- and asked if I wanted to go! Of course I said yes!! It’s the weekend of the race, so I figured that’s why they were having a special showing even though the movie would have been out for a month. But just in case, I asked her if Jim would be there….. well, I got her response about an hour ago… and he will!!!!!! AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! So I get to see Jim Caviezel, maybe even meet him!! WOO HOO! She said there would be a Q&A session before the showing, so I have to think of something brilliant to ask so he’ll want to talk to me.
I’m on cloud nine! I’ve loved him for soooooooo long, and now I finally get to see my favorite actor of all time! Yippee!
Okay, now I really have to go work on the shower. I feel like dancing all the way to my room!
Goodnight!!
