Friday: Harry Potter
Wednesday: Rent and Syriana?! Whatever will I do with myself? I have to see Rent with Jessy Weds though, she'd better not lame out and say she's too tired from her little cross-country flight.
Today was the settle the contract rally. For those I haven't been keeping up with, my union might be striking next month, around the time you all come back into town. Boooooooooo strike. I stand to lose about $300/day. Um, 3 days of that = rent. So today we all wore black and marched down to the district office banging on those balloon stick things and yelling stuff. There were a ton of us, hopefully it makes some sort of difference. I still went to Piedmont ave and looked for help wanted signs, though. Should I work at the Piedmont ave movie theatre? It would only be Friday nights and some Sat/Sun hours. It would just mean I never have a day off, and could probably never do anything fun. But I would have money to buy things. That's always nice. Anyway, as I was walking Piedmont ave I walked right past a camper, eventually I figured out that it was Eliana. Tczarina with stupid accent Eliana. I don't think I ever told her to lose it, I just laughed at her. Ah, camp.
Sue had her baby! Her name is Paloma (insert middle name I already forgot here) Zaima. I really really really want to meet her over break and shower her and mommy with gifts.
Pretty much everything in my life is stressful right now (seriously, it's hard to find a topic that doens't stress me out) but I am so in love with my students it's kind of nuts. They really are the cutest things on earth. Sometimes I'm having trouble getting revved up in the morning, but then my kids call down from latchkey and when I tell them to come in, they're so excited! And what could be cuter and more innocent than watching a little black girl and a little white boy spin around in circles until they're so dizzy they collapse on the floor giggling? Really, nothing at all. I was getting all misty-eyed by the loveliness of it all.
I would love it if you college kids could come and play games or do art with them. You'll want to take them away and play with them all day long. Some of them are already talking about how they want to do drama camp next year. I tried to explain how far away camp was from them, but they were undeterred.
