Acknowledging that my lj friends range from an agnostic (I can't remember if he's atheist or agnostic, but most of his comments about the idea of a deity sound more agnostic than atheist) to uber-Catholic, I'm curious of how y'all would answer this question: How does praying make you feel? More specifically, what physical, emotional, or spiritual sensations do you experience while praying?
I've noticed that when I'm praying frequently and earnestly, I often feel a light, floaty feeling while I pray. If you're a knitter, it's similar to a knitting high, but much more intense. Occasionally, I'll feel the presence of someone else who isn't physically there with me. For instance, I've felt as if my grandmother is sitting next to me while I've prayed the rosary before. On the emotional spectrum, I've felt everything from nothing at all to totally overwhelmed with joy and awe. The nothing at all is during those times when I'm just going through the motions of prayer though, so I'm not sure if I would ever really count it as actual prayer.
