30 Day Writing Meme VI

Mar 06, 2010 21:31

Hey, y'all, before I get to my daily meme question: do any of you, especially girls, have an interest in voice acting?

prozd is planning a project around a voiced version of Yotsuba&!, placing the panels of the comic in a video and setting them to speech and music. However, seeing as how the cast is predominantly female, he's in need of more female actors. Serious acting chops are not required, so don't be nervous!

He's posted about it here and here, in case you're interested. Give him a holler if you're curious, okay? This has been a paid advertisement for... Wait, paid? No, it hasn't! Where's my ten bucks?

ONWARDS.

6. Where are you most comfortable writing? At what time of day? Computer or good ol' pen and paper?

I tend to do most of my offhanded scribbling at night before bed, probably because I keep my laptop on my nightstand, so if an idea suddenly comes to me, it's right there! Which reminds me, I should go about making another dream log since my first one went kaput. Sob.

Sometimes, when I can't sleep (which is often), I'll relax myself by plotting ridiculous scenes in my head. Unfortunately, these aren't often committed to (digital) paper, as if I were to get up and start writing, I'd probably be up all night! Which can be fun, but not when I have to work in a few hours. Just a few more paragraphs, almost done, is it four AM already?

I definitely prefer the computer to pen and paper. No two ways about it. Sure, being able to hastily doodle things on the margins is nice, but a computer is much quicker, and easier on my fingers. Writing with a pen and paper for an extend period of time cramps up my hand, anyway!

I type an average of over 100 WPM, making the pen and paper approach the equivalent of swimming through a pool of tasty molasses. Which I should use to make some ginger cookies. Not the molasses I've been swimming in, though. That'd be unsanitary.

Plus, the computer doesn't smudge, and it's easier to make backups. On the downside, if I were to suddenly find myself overcome by rage at my creative incompetence, using a computer would make it much harder to burn, burn everything, burn it all! AAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Not that I've done that. But you never know.

As for where, though ideas can strike me any time, any place, my writing is always done in my room. Both because my laptop is there, and because it's a quiet place where I can be left alone and ponder ideas aloud and blast annoying music to my heart's content. I wouldn't feel comfortable writing anywhere else.

You know what I can't stand? People looming over my shoulder, watching the creative process! I feel so pressured and embarrassed when that happens. Art or text, it doesn't matter which, I hate being watched! My room is the only place safe from prying eyes. I should hope.

My figures aren't judging my wonky concepts and strange scenarios that totally make sense in my head but not so much in writing, right? You, Nendoroids! I am watching you! You with your oversized eyes, always staring...

It's been pleasantly warm the past few days. You won't find yourself mistaking it for summer, not by any stretch, but it's nice. However, every time the temperature goes up, even a tiny bit, people feel the burning need to treat themselves to frappuccinos. I can't hear anything over those stupid blenders!

My ASM was telling me she was reading about Starbucks eventually planning on changing how we make frappuccinos, too. As in, adding more steps to the process. Needless to say, we are not pleased. Nobody likes making them. They are messy and time consuming, and woe betide you if you're tasked with making several different kinds without anyone available to help out. Because we want our frappuccinos now, what's taking so long, we've been waiting a whole two minutes, this is ridiculous!

I got home after work today and proceeded to nap for several hours. This displeases me. Sure, it means I was in desperate need of it, but I hate dozing all day. And my head hurts. Arrrrgh.
