Back in January we signed a contract for a house to be renovated for us. I guess in all the chaos of negotiating price, deadlines, and what renovations would be done it never really felt final and we forgot to share the news. So um...guess what? We bought a house!
2041 W Mistletoe. Our new closing date is April 1st.
The house is a 3-2 from 1939. They pretty much gutted it and are redoing EVERYTHING (electrical, plumbing, walls, roof, cabinetry, appliances, tiled floors, hardwood refinishing, exterior paint, A/C, etc.). We've been able to work with the designers/contractors on many of the renovation decisions. This kind of thing is really great when it comes to picking favorite colors, but I went a little batty when they started consulting us on every little thing. They even asked us to pick the texture of our walls. Orange peel is fine people!! How often do you pay that much attention to your wall texture? Todd has been amazingly helpful with all the practical details. He has spent countless nights on the internet researching things like interest rates, security systems, insulation, water heaters, electric vs gas, and how gutter types affect foundations. That stuff makes my head spin.
Oh yeah, I guess our house attracts fame because we've learned these strange things:
1) A few weeks into the process we learned that one of the contractor/designers, Ed Garza, is the former mayor of San Antonio. We'd had several conversations over 3 months with this guy, his partner, and our real estate agent before anyone mentioned that fact.
2) Hilary Clinton decided to walk up our street when she came to town a few weeks ago and took a stroll through our house while they were working on it. I think that's pretty cool since I have mildly positive feelings about her, but Todd feels his house was tainted by her presence.
3) Our house might be featured in a Sherwin-Williams brochure since we're using their paint. This is probably Ed's doing.
Anyway, I'm working on a
Listography list of things I'm looking forward to in my new house because the reality of it all hasn't set in yet for me. I'm sure I'll be overwhelmed with excitement when all the details start to come together. I'll pretend this is HGTV and post before and after pictures in April.
