I'm Back!

Jun 30, 2009 02:53

So I'm back from my honeymoon! It was really lovely, and mastergode and I had a lovely time on our cruise. I took 496 pictures, and so needless to say, it's going to take some time to edit them down to a reasonable number for posting. I believe I'm going to make several posts about the trip.

I was most excited about going to Prince Edward Island since I'm a big fan of Lucy Maud Montgomery, even if she did spell her middle name wrong. I figured I'd go ahead and post about that day first, even though it was in the middle of the trip, since I want to cross post to egl anyway.

We took a bus tour that went out to both The Lucy Maud Montgomery Heritage Museum and to the Green Gables House that was her inspiration for Anne of Green Gables. Unfortunately, the departure time for our tour was at 8:45am, which we weren't too pleased about since neither of us are morning folks.

I was very excited, and so I had to take a picture on the bus.

I took a picture of Austin too, but his is less flattering! He was a sleepy little kiwi, and he couldn't manage to stay awake on the bus as all.

These are Lupins, which are all over Prince Edward Island. They were really lovely to see all along the side of the road.

The first place we went to was the Lucy Maud Montgomery Museum which is located at the house where she was married. We were greeted by a real life Anne with raspberry cordial. Isn't she sooooo cute? I don't know how well I think she resembles Anne, but she's still adorable. She was super sweet too.

Here I am drinking the aforementioned cordial. It was alright I suppose. I think it was a bit lackluster partially in part because of it's presentation. I'm sure it would have tasted better in a pretty glass instead of a plastic lidded cup!

After the cordial, we got to walk around inside of the house. It was really cool to see the parlor where Ms. Montgomery became Mrs.Macdonald, and very appropriate since we were on our honeymoon. However, I didn't take any pictures of that since the room was so wee that it was difficult to get a good shot with people always going in and out. So here's some of my few pictures in the house.

I thought this little room was so darling! I particularly love the little wedding doll of Anne in the cradle.

Here I'm looking out the window onto the front lawn.

After we looked around the house, and after all of the people who worked there finished inquiring about and admiring my outfit, we got to go on a little carriage ride past The Lake of Shining Waters. It was very short and kind of silly, but it was fun.

For all of you Anne enthusiasts out there, this is the real Lake of Shining Waters. Too bad it was a foggy mucky day, and so it's not quite as pretty as it otherwise might be. :(

Next it was back on the bus and on to the Green Gables House! You have to wear a little sticker while you're there to show that you paid. Here you can see how much the sticker looks like the real place. If you're from Georgia, you'll note how close this looks to a scene that could be just around the corner from your house. P.E.I. is noted for it's red soil too!

Everything in this house was ridiculously short! The doorways and stairs were so incredibly tiny. It made me feel a bit like Alice in Wonderland.

Again, I was shy to take too many pictures since there were other people in the way. I did however get a picture in the sewing room.

It must have been so pleasant to sit and look out this window while sewing. Too bad about having to work that treadle!

The tour guide had this ridiculous hat for people to take pictures with. It's got red bangs and braids to make you into Anne. The guide wanted me to put it on, but it didn't fit very well over my hair flower, so I had mastergode put it on. BEST PICTURE EVER!

On the way back to the port, we paused in front of the house that Lucy Maud Montgomery was born in. We just got to snap pictures from the bus, and I really wish we could have gone in. Oh well, next time~

When we got back to the port, we went and perused the little shops along the water. We were intrigued by this funny cow, and thus we were lured into the ice-cream shop it was advertising.

I'm glad we were lured in! Cow's had really good ice-cream, which I was not expecting. Usually when a place claims to have "The best ice-cream in ______", it rarely is. You will note this is mastergode's second ice-cream of the day!

All in all, it was a fun day, though I wish we'd gotten to see more of the island. Most of the day was foggy and horrible, which, according to the tour guide, is really rare on Prince Edward Island. I hope I get to go back sometime.

It was amusing having people fuss over my dress all day long. At the sites we visited, I was like my own little walking tourist attraction. People stopped me to take pictures and talked to me about how neat they thought my dress was. A couple of people accused me of being Anne, even though my dress could hardly be said to be period appropriate. They should have known I wasn't supposed to be her anyway since Anne thought that pink clothes didn't suit her red hair! XD Then, back on the cruise ship, people stopped me every five paces or so to tell me how lovely they thought I looked. It was really kind of nice. I felt like the princess of the ship! ^__^

NOTE ONE: I made my dress out of 1960's bedsheets that I bought at a thrift store for $6.00. I think you can hardly tell! It good, thick, sturdy fabric that makes a lovely dress material.

NOTE TWO: I had to go back and omit the "e" in "Maude" from every single instance of Lucy Maud Montgomery's name in this post. It's very hard to spell your own name a different way! ^^;
